3. Capcom
Anyone who’s checked out the character roster in the recent Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be aware of just how many pies Capcom have their proverbial fingers in. If it isn’t already impressive just how huge some of the series they produce are, then the fact that they get many equally successful re-issues like Super Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition, makes Capcom’s success within the publishing domain all the sweeter.
2. EA
EA are in a unique and pleasant position at the moment on account of their various established franchises, (think every major sports title at the moment) in conjunction with many of their more recent titles that are on the cusp of becoming well entrenched names within the industry. For every million dollar making Fifa or Madden title, EA have a matching new IP like Dead Space or Dante’s Inferno, making their repertoire unique and profitable.
1. Activision Blizzard
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick may be a devil in human form, but the man is damn good with money. Between Call of Duty, the recently deceased Guitar Hero franchise and their semi-recent acquisition of Blizzard, Activision are easily the biggest publisher in gaming. Though their pricing methods and strategies may be annoying at best, (1200 Ms points for CoD DLC my ass) Activision have the history and cash behind them to invest huge amounts into marketing, granting games like Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops the biggest and most publicised releases possible. They have a hell of a lot of cash, and look set to add to their stash in the coming months.
