Development

7 Days to Die is a survival horror first person shooter that is running on the Unity engine which powers a lot of Kickstarter games. The game was first made available to gamers on August 16th of 2013 when it’s alpha build (on windows. The mac version launched on September 12th of 2013 as part of Alpha 1.1) went live to anyone who had pre-ordered the game through KickStarter or PayPal.

Despite it’s first release on the above mentioned date, the game is still only in its alpha state, not even having reached Beta yet. The game was also successfully greenlit after a 16 day period during which it gained over 56,000 votes.

Story

7 days to die

The world has been reduced to rubble and ruin in the wake of a near future third world war. Something, nobody knows what, has caused the dead to reanimate and once again walk the earth acting with a hive mind mentality.
The player takes control of a survivor of the catastrophe living in Navezgane County, Arizona.

Gameplay

7 days to die 2

7 Days to Die will eventually spawn the player into a randomly generated word inhabited by the undead with the sole objective of survival in mind. This can be accomplished through a variety of means but key to your survival is adhering to the games structure of exploration, location defence and zombie slaying.

As time passes in the game world, the types of zombie that you encounter will grow stronger and more vicious in nature. To counter this, the player is given access to a suit of crafting abilities that allows the creation of defences and weapons. Caution must be taken when creating housing for your character however, the voxel based world has rudimentary physics that requires buildings to have the proper supports or else it will collapse.

Surviving the night isn’t the players only struggle though. The player needs to constantly feed their character and drink a steady supply of water, lest they die of thirst or starvation. This, coupled with weapon and equipment degradation adds to the threat.

Players can engage in multiplayer through player hosted servers, this allows them to create and interact with other player worlds. The currently supported modes of play are Horde, Survival and Creative.

Characters

7 days to die 1

The game won’t feature characters in the typical sense. The players character is a blank slate. There is however NPC’s in the game world, this is how the player will gain access to most of the games quests.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game.

Awesome Stuff that you might be interested in

  • Heavily recommending this to any PC gamer who may have been let down by prior Zombie games. Custom barricades, hunger and thirst systems, and more importantly, it’s actually scary — with plenty of other goodies to look forward to. *thumbs up*

Wrong in the first sentence. 7 Days to Die is NOT a first person shooter. Did you even play the game?

    • Martin Toney

The first sentence reads, “7 Days to Die is an upcoming first person shooter video game with survival horror elements mixed with tower defence inspired mechanics and rpg elements set in an open world sandbox that is currently in development by the Kickstarter funded developer, The Fun Pimps.”
The player can shoot from a first person perspective, ergo it falls into the FPS genre. It’s also played predominantly in the first person view mode, lending more credence to this classification.

Further more, the first sentence continues to list the games other elements that are bundled in with the first person experience. I would be happy to amend the article if you can provide a better classification.

This game has incredible possibilities but i must be blunt….it’s still in the “Alpha” state and does have glitches. Also, this game can be very unforgiving to a player. It took me several tries to get used to the idea that this game, in it’s current states, doesn’t “always” tell you that you’re bleeding to death…and then you just mysteriously die as if a “ghost” sniper or air bullet kills you. Like i said, glitches. However, if you can get past that, it’s one helluva game. The author is already talking about adding NPCs in Alpha 15 so, neat…My only real gripe, the Xbox One version seems to be without any real mods and they need to go the way of Fallout 4 and have a huge import community. Also, there is one problem, this game is really hard on hard drives in xboxes and really works them. I put a BRAND NEW 4TB in and it had it acting jerky within a week. I think the new model xbox will work it better when it comes into play…
