BioWare: Mass Effect 3 ‘more action-adventre-y’ than ME2; is ‘the best game we’ve ever made’

Mass Effect 3, says, BioWare, is the best game they’re ever worked on. They say it strikes a perfect balance- it has a lot of RPG elements that fans wanted, and it also is a lot more action packed and blockbuster like.

“This is definitely the best chance we have in the series to really break out and go truly blockbuster,” BioWare marketing boss David Silverman told CVG. “It’s a natural entry point for new players: giant alien race launches all-out war, you have to rally the forces of the universe to counter and see if you can take them down. That’s pretty clear. You don’t need to be like: ‘Well, what about when I had this love affair?’ It’s like, who cares? It’s all out war!

“We’re hoping for a big hit. It’s the best game we’ve ever made at BioWare Edmonton. The stuff we’re doing – making the gameplay more action-adventre-y, making it on a par with some of the best action games you see today, whilst on top of that adding in these RPG elements that maybe people were upset we didn’t focus on as much in Mass Effect 2 – it strikes a balance.”

He went on to say that BioWare’s also taking feedback from people on what they like about games like Gears of War, Call of Duty, Halo and Assassin’s Creed. “We’ve done a lot of research about what people liked about Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and other games too – what they like about Gears Of War, Assassin’s Creed, Halo, Call Of Duty and lots of RPG games too.

“We’ve looked at all these games to see what’s resonating and what’s not. On the one hand, we don’t want to go too far down the RPG rabbit hole where Shepard starts rolling dice, but on the other hand we don’t want to ignore that coolness – where people can customise parts of their character and making them feel that it’s them in the adventure. We capitalise on that in spades in ME3.”

“We’ve done a lot of research about what people liked about Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and other games too – what they like about Gears Of War, Assassin’s Creed, Halo, Call Of Duty and lots of RPG games too.

Gears of BORE? What is everyone going to look like a Krogan as they yell really really shitty dialogue that makes Residnet Evil look like shakesphere randomly to the point where conversations sound like like 2 people with no chemistry just randomly yelling out lines? They already “saw what people liked” about the combat and “borrowed” it for Me2

Assassin’s Creed – WHAT? everything thats great about AC wouldn’t fit in a game like Mass Effect…at ALL. It’s like putting things people liked in Tetris in the next Mortal Kombat.

Halo – FPS with Space Marines…what haven’t they “used” already?

Call Of Duty – NO! NO! NO! There’s already too much Call of Duty and CoD clones as it is now they want to take what started as a great sci-fi RPG and turn it into a generic realistic shooter?

Just make a Mass Effect game stop trying to copy what was successful, *cough *sWoWtor*cough*. ME is already a great IP there’s no reason for this. Unless they really have no faith in the game and need to piggy back on whats already great.

The more BW talks about their games the less I like the games, they have the worst PR department and really should just learn to stfu and only release info very sparingly.

  • Le sigh. I actually likes ME1 over ME2 because of it’s RPGness and felt ME2 was dumbed down for the masses…. the fact that they’re continuing this trend angers me.

Also, bioware also said DA2 was their best game yet and look at how that was received.
