Box2D Creator To Be Credited On ‘Angry Birds’ After Polite GDC Exchange

Posted By | On 05th, Mar. 2011

During an audience Q&A session at GDC Peter Vesterbacka, an executive for Rovio the creators of Angry Birds, was asked a fairly straightforward question by a man named Erin Catto:

“Er, um, yes hello. I was wondering, what physics engine do you use in Angry Birds?”

“Box2D”

“Is there any chance you could credit it on Angry Birds…?”

(long pause)  “Sure.”

“Great, I’m the creator of the Box2D engine.”

The crowd then erupted with applause and Vesterbacka asked to talk to him after the session. There appears to be no ill feeling from Mr. Catto towards Rovio and reports claim that the company have promised to promote the engine on all future Angry Birds games.

Thanks to Develop and Gearfuse for the info.
