A report has indicated that State of Decay 3 might be getting close to wrapping up development and has entered alpha testing.

Among the many first-party games that have been in development at studios under the XBOX Game Studios banner, Undead Labs’ State of Decay 3 has perhaps been the one most shrouded in mystery. The title was first announced all the way back in 2020. Since then, however, few details about the project have been revealed. According to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, State of Decay 3 is likely to show up at the upcoming June 7th Xbox Showcase.

According to Corden’s report, State of Decay 3 has progressed far along in development that it is undergoing private alpha testing with parts of the franchise’s community. Along with this, he has also indicated that the title will be well polished, especially when compared to State of Decay 2.

“It’s almost certain we’ll see State of Decay 3 at the showcase too, given that it’s already in private alpha testing with a small subset of the community alongside some YouTubers,” wrote Corden. “And from what I’ve heard … it sounds like Undead Labs really, really nailed the ‘AAA’ feel that was absent from State of Decay 2.”

If you’ve been wondering why State of Decay 3 has been taking so long to develop, studio head Philip Holt revealed back in April that, back when the announcement trailer was released, the game only really existed as a Word document.

“So that trailer – there really wasn’t a game or game team when we were working on that trailer, like, it was so early,” he said in an interview. “You know, the game was in a Word document. It was really the very beginnings of software.”

The trailer itself was pre-rendered, created completely by Blur, and was meant to be a way for Undead Labs to show its vision for what it wanted State of Decay 3 to be.

As for other development teams part of XBOX Game Studios, Corden doesn’t believe that we will see much in the way of announcements from studios like Rare, Obsidian, Compulsion, Ninja Theory, or Double Fine. He did, however, note that Ninja Theory and Double Fine have been working on projects described as “more ambitious” than their recent outings – Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 and Kiln, respectively. However, these projects are still quite early in development, and it is unlikely that either studio will be unveiling it just yet.

Similarly, Blizzard is also expected to sit the June 7th showcase out, since it tends to unveil its major projects during its own yearly event – BlizzCon. Among these is expected to be a shooter based on the StarCraft universe, which rumors have indicated will be closer in visual style to StarCraft 2’s cinematics than Overwatch’s more stylized look.

As for other projects that might be unveiled at the showcase, Corden believes that we might finally get to see what Toys for Bob has been working on – a project that is rumored to be a brand-new entry in the Spyro franchise. InXile is also expected to show off more of its in-development game, Clockwork Revolution.

On the hardware side of things, while Project Helix is unlikely to make an appearance at the June 7th Xbox Showcase, recent leaks have indicated that Microsoft might be getting closer to finally unveiling its rumored third iteration of the Xbox Elite Controller.

Milestone's newest title in the Hot Wheels racing series reportedly retails for $49.99 and could appear at Summer Game Fest.

Leaks have begun to emerge in the Summer Game Fest ship, from big names that could appear to huge announcements. However, it seems that the World Premieres could also reveal some brand new games, including an unannounced Hot Wheels title from Milestone.

According to investigations by Dealabs’ billbil-kun, it’s called Hot Wheels Infinite Rush and allegedly launches on September 24th. It will reportedly retail for $49.99 on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, though if it follows Unleashed 2’s business model, you can expect plenty of DLC and additional vehicles.

Although unconfirmed for Summer Game Fest, it’s certainly possible. The event begins today at 2 PM PT and is expected to last for two hours.

Other notable titles expected to appear include Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, which could finally get its official title, and Star Wars Zero Company, reportedly launching on August 27th and costing $49.99 for the Standard Edition on PC. NetEase Games’ Blood Message is officially appearing, and based on all the leaks surrounding Sega, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the next Jet Set Radio or Persona 6.

Will Grand Theft Auto 6 deign to appear, perhaps with a new trailer, especially if Rockstar’s marketing begins later this month? Time will tell, so stay tuned.

Square Enix's highly anticipated remake could premiere on June 5th, perhaps finally revealing its official title among other details.

After missing State of Play, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 could finally have its big reveal at Summer Game Fest. Notable insider NateTheHate said he expected it to be at the June 5th showcase, and when asked to clarify, he specifically claimed to have heard about its appearance.

Which is about all we’ve got to go on right now, but it’s far from nothing. Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the team would reveal more about the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Project “than ever before,” on top of all the tidbits thus far. These include the fact that Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind have “incredibly appealing” skills that he can’t wait for players to try out.

The third part in the remake trilogy was confirmed to be in a playable state last February, and Hamaguchi accrued over 40 playthroughs as of May. Following his statement about how announcement preparations were “steadily underway” and that fans would only need to wait a “little longer,” a reveal at Summer Game Fest seems highly likely.

Perhaps we’ll finally learn the official title, especially since it’s been locked internally for some time now. Compared to Remake and Rebirth, the third part will also launch on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 alongside PS5. Stay tuned for more updates when Summer Game Fest rolls around.

The XCOM-like will reportedly cost $50 on PC and $60 on consoles, and will also have a Deluxe Edition for $60 and $70, respectively.

Following numerous big-name titles announcing their release for September, it only made sense that Bit Reactor’s Star Wars Zero Company would avoid the hustle and bustle, if only by a few days. According to Dealabs’ billbil-kun, the XCOM-esque strategy title will launch on August 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.

Electronic Arts already confirmed on Twitter that there would be a gameplay reveal on June 5th at Summer Game Fest, so this report carries even more weight. However, pre-orders may begin shortly after, with the Standard Edition reportedly costing $49.99 on PC and $59.99 on consoles, while the Deluxe Edition is apparently $59.99 and $69.99.

There are currently no details on what Deluxe owners can expect, but advanced access is apparently not included. Also, the Standard Edition is reportedly the only one getting a standard release.

Star Wars Zero Company has enticed us ever since its announcement, promising a tactical strategy experience that channels the likes of Andor and The Clone Wars. As Hawks, a former officer of the Republic, players take on missions with a mercenary group to deal with a new threat.

It offers many of the same tenets as XCOM, especially permadeath, with a greater emphasis on character interactions and consequences. The fact that it’s not colliding with other upcoming releases (for now) makes it all the more enticing.

A new report has also revealed details about the Deluxe Edition of EA Sports College Football 27, including its various bonuses.

It looks like EA wants to make its upcoming sports games more accessible. According to Dealabs’ Billbil-kun, alongside its planned PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release, EA Sports College Football 27 is also making its way to PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. While the company is yet to make any official announcement regarding a PC release, the report has noted that an Amazon listing for the title’s PC version popped up temporarily.

Billbil-kun has also noted that they were able to corroborate reports of EA Sports College Football 27 coming to PC. Unfortunately for Nintendo Switch 2 players, however, it looks like the title will once more skip the hybrid console.

As for pricing, the PC version of EA Sports College Football 27 is expected to be priced similarly to its console counterparts, with a standard edition coming it at $69.99, and a Deluxe Edition priced at $99.99. European players might find that the PC version is €10 cheaper than the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, however, with the standard edition priced at €69.99 on PC and €79.99 on consoles, and the Deluxe Edition priced at €99.99 on PC and €109.99 on consoles.

There are also going to be pre-order bonuses for the Deluxe Edition, including 4,600 College Football Points, 3 days of advanced access, exclusive solo challenges, Ultimate Team Player Items, Dynasty Coach Points, and Road to Glory Skill Points. The PC version is expected to come out on the same day as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions – on July 9th.

Along with this, Billbil-kun’s report has also indicated that Madden NFL 27 will be coming to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on August 13th. While the PC version will only be available digitally, there are plans for physical editions for the consoles.

All of these details come just a day before EA’s planned official showcase for EA Sports College Football 27 and Madden NFL 27. The showcase was announced just last week, and will feature a deep dive into the two titles, giving us a look at some of their new features and updated rosters. Both titles are slated to be part of “one connected showcase”, with EA promising new game modes and innovations.

Just this week, EA had also revealed the cover athletes for EA Sports College Football 27’s standard and Deluxe Editions. The title will feature Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney, and Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy on the standard edition. The Deluxe Edition will feature Texas linebacker Colin Simmons, Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore, and USC quarterback Jayden Maiava. Legendary coach Curt Cignetti will also be present on the cover.

While you wait for the newest iteration of the EA Sports College Football series, take a look at our review of last year’s release, which we gave a score of 8 out of 10 thanks to the sheer number of customization options it offered, its fleshed-out offense and defense play, and its authentic depiction of school stadiums, among many other reasons.

Previous rumors claimed that the spin-off would release in the first half of 2027, though Santa Monica Studio has yet to confirm.

God of War finally made its triumphant return in the latest State of Play, albeit in a different way than many might have imagined. Starring Faye, Kratos’ wife from the Norse saga, God of War Laufey dazzled with its 20+ minutes of gameplay, but the lack of a release date left many wanting.

In case you think that means it’s a long way off, there is some good news. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said not to read “too much” into the lack of a release date or window because “in contrast to a lot of other big announcements, this one isn’t years away.” This is in line with previous rumors about a launch sometime in the first half of 2027, though a delay is always possible.

Laufey takes place in a completely different realm than previous entries, known as the Everywhen, which serves as the origin and endpoint of magic. Awakening after her funeral and seemingly trapped in this place, Faye must deal with the likes of Sekhmet and Begtse, and who knows what other mythological figures (Chinese and Japanese are seemingly on the table).

Aiding her is a sentient cube called Phranque and Rue, the guardian of a suspicious sword. While Faye battles Begtse and seemingly puts him down, her true journey will involve trying to return home to Kratos and Atreus, and potentially restoring the flow of magic in the Everywhen.

Releasing exclusively on PS5, God of War Laufey is directed by Ariel Lawrence with Cory Barlog instead serving as Head of Creative for the series at Sony Santa Monica, overseeing its long-term vision. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.

While details about this Direct are scarce, the company is expected to finally unveil its remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

In the midst of the Summer of Gaming filled with events, book-ended by Sony’s recent State of Play from this week and the PC Gaming Show on June 8th, it looks like Nintendo will also be throwing its hat into the ring. According to Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb in a recent episode of his Last of the Nintendogs podcast, a Nintendo Direct is planned for June 9th.

While Grubb wasn’t able to go into too many details about what we might see at this Nintendo Direct, or even what time it will be aired, he noted the usual caveats of time zones being a major factor for when fans of Nintendo will be able to see the supposed Direct before mentioning that it will go live on Tuesday morning.

Grubb’s recent statement ties into his claims from last month about Nintendo planning a Direct for mid-June. At the time, he said that the company would likely wait until after the biggest of the shows – Summer Game Fest – had wrapped up before going ahead with its own showcase. There are also no details about whether this Direct will be focused on first-party releases or if it will also include games from third-party studios and publishers.

If this rumored Nintendo Direct is focused on first-party games, it is likely to be headlined by the official announcement of a remake of the seminal The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Rumors from a few months ago have indicated that Nintendo is looking to release it near the Holiday season.

A 2026 launch for a remake of Ocarina of Time would be quite fitting, since the year also marks the 40th anniversary for The Legend of Zelda as a whole, with the first entry in the franchise having come out all the way back in 1986 on the NES. As for why the company would pick Ocarina of Time to remake rather than the original, it likely comes down to the fact that the action-adventure title has only been released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, with a remake coming to Nintendo 3DS in 2011. Considering the legacy of the game, introducing it to a wider modern audience would likely be a no-brainer for Nintendo, especially with a movie based on the franchise being in the works.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time also has tremendous legacy behind it, with many considering it to be one of the greatest games ever made thanks to its combination of the at-the-time relatively unique open structure in a 3D game, its mastery over 3D gameplay thanks to the introduction of Z-targeting, and its gameplay structure that, while an evolution of the one from A Link to the Past, would go on to become the foundation of most The Legend of Zelda games moving forwards until the 2010 release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.

A remake of Ocarina of Time would also open the doors for Nintendo to potentially bring its immediate sequel – 2000’s The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask – to a wider audience as well, since the original was developed using Ocarina of Time’s engine and assets.

Announced in 2021 and reportedly still years from release, development is apparently "not going well at all" amid "a lot of frustration."

If there’s one thing that’s remained constant since Star Wars Eclipse’s announcement, it’s rumors of troubled development. Over four years later and following the shutdown of Spellcasters Chronicles, the project is reportedly in “development hell,” per Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw.

While discussing the titles that could appear at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase, he said, “Yeah, it ain’t going well. Quantic Dream..They want to get out from under NetEase. They want to divest from Quantic Dream. I’m not going to be surprised if Quantic Dream is sold by the end of the year…like, ‘Hey, we’re selling or whatever by end of the year or sometime in 2027.’

“It’s not going well. Like, it is not going well at all. And there’s frustration. There’s a lot of frustration about it. So I would not expect that. If they did anything, it would be a ‘We’re still here.'”

Straw reiterated that Quantic Dream was reportedly riding on Spellcasters Chronicles providing funding for Eclipse to help push it across the finish line. Obviously, that didn’t happen with servers planned to shut down on June 19th. It stings all the more considering that the free-to-play 3v3 title reportedly took eight years to develop.

And if that wasn’t enough, the developer is undergoing an “internal reorganization,” which could result in layoffs for up to 95 employees. Given that it’s still early, Quantic Dream couldn’t comment on the severity.

While Star Wars Eclipse could receive a cinematic trailer at, say, Summer Game Fest or the Xbox Games Showcase, reports that it’s still “years off” from completion apparently remain true.

Suffice to say that between this and Knights of the Old Republic – Remake, it’s a tough time to be a fan of narrative-focused Star Wars games. Fortunately, it seems that Arcanaut Studios’ Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is making positive progress, with project lead Casey Hudson promising it would launch before 2030. He also noted that it wouldn’t be 200 hours long or feature generative AI in any form.

Wizards of the Coast is also allegedly looking into remaking the original Baldur's Gate, though nothing is seemingly official.

Wizards of the Coast is reportedly looking to the past to deliver more Baldur’s Gate action for Dungeons and Dragons fans. PC Gamer claims that the company is working on a remake of Baldur’s Gate 2, per a “source familiar” with the same.

Former BioWare developer Kevin Martens, who worked on the original as co-lead designer, is involved, though this is far from his first project with the company. He’s also worked on Archetype Entertainment’s Exodus, also published by Wizards of the Coast, but that’s not all, as Baldur’s Gate 1 may also get the remake treatment.

Assuming they launch relatively close to one another, it would certainly help the marketing push for a figurative Baldur’s Gate 4. Of course, how far along development is, and when they’ll ultimately arrive remains unknown.

Released in 1998, Baldur’s Gate is the first role-playing game developed by BioWare, and it focuses on the player navigating the Sword Coast in Faerun to learn more about themselves. This continues in Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn (2000), considered one of the greatest games of all time thanks to its storytelling, companions and quality of side quests.

While Enhanced Editions of both titles are available courtesy of Beamdog, it remains to be seen how remakes would fundamentally change the gameplay. Maybe iron out some of the rough spots of the 2nd Edition ruleset? Time will tell, so stay tuned.

The development team at Respawn Entertainment apparently always "knew they were going to make a third game," says Jeff Grubb.

Despite no announcements on May the 4th, new details have seemingly leaked about the next entry in Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi series. Following 2023’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the third game allegedly features an older Cal Kestis, according to Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson on a recent podcast.

“I mean, this was like a year ago or whatever, but I heard that like Cal was going to be older in the game, so I don’t know if they’re doing like a little time jump or something.” Considering that Survivor took place five years after Fallen Order with Cal worn down after continuously fighting the Empire, it wouldn’t be too surprising.

As for how far into the future, Henderson added that the character wouldn’t be so old as to, say, use his Lightsaber as a walking stick. Not that this is how it worked out for Yoda, but you get the idea.

When we can expect a reveal is anyone’s guess, especially with so many big showcases around the corner. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Bomb alleged on last week’s Game Mess Mornings that the sequel “went into production right away after the second one. Kind of before that happened. Everyone involved knew they were going to make a third game. They wanted to do a trilogy.”

That doesn’t necessarily narrow down an announcement, but for those hoping to see a continuation – and possible conclusion – to Cal’s journey, it’s coming (especially following a recent statement from Lucasfilm and Disney). Stay tuned for more updates on when.
