Relic Entertainment has released a new developer diary for the multiplayer in Company of Heroes 2, which focuses on what inspired the developer, along with what to expect from the competitive modes. Check it out above.

Following up on the critically and commercially acclaimed Company of Heroes, the sequel takes place with the Soviet Red Army being the focus. The player will take part in missions across the Eastern Front, including the Operation Barbarossa and the Battle of Berlin. Of course, there is the added element of unrest brewing in among the Reds.

Company of Heroes 2 is built off the new Essence 3.0 engine, along with featuring new improvements to troop visibility with TrueSight. There will also be a new weather-simulating technology in ColdTech, along with destructible environments, not to mention support for DirectX 11.

With the open beta currently going on via Steam, Company of Heroes 2 will release on June 25th worldwide.
