Despite the less than stellar critical reception for both the show and the game, Trion Worlds’ shooter Defiance has reportedly hit 1 million registrations within just a month after its release.

Trion Worlds’ Nathan Richardsson stated that, “We’re incredibly proud that after five years of development, we are bringing this ambitious project to life. The game launch is just the beginning of a truly unique entertainment experience.” This experience has since been described as “transmedia”.

The developer has also released a range of stats detailing the activity of its players: So far, 500 million hellbugs have been killed, with 1 million Arkfalls – chunks of alien ships – battled across and a total of 50 million miles have been driven across.

Defiance ties in with SyFy’s TV series of the same name. It is an off-shoot that is meant to run parallel to the show. Releasing on April 2nd for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, it debuted strongly on Steam with multiple pre-orders before its release.

I honestly think everyone who is a fan of RPGs should definitely give defiance a chance its a very fun and addictive game. It has so much potential and will be around for some time because it follows the show even with its own seasons. I’ve bought the game on a whim which I hardly ever do with games with low reviews but the reviews don’t do the game justice. They mostly express their discontent for the bugs and server issues that are being constantly patched. As the game continues to improve we start to see what a gem Defiance really is.
