Destiny 2 On PS4 Pro Is Displayed In 2160p Via Checkerboard Rendering

Of course, this is only the beta code, so maybe the final game runs differently?

Destiny 2 is releasing later this year, and it will also be enhanced for the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X- but specifically for the PS4 Pro, which is a weaker machine than the Xbox One X, how might it perform? Will it manage to run in full 4K? Or will there be shortcuts and compromises necessary?

According to a tech analysis run by Digital FoundryDestiny 2 runs on PS4 Pro in 2160p, which is achieved via Checkerboard Rendering, Sony’s upscaling technique that it uses to achieve the illusion of higher resolutions. Keep in mind, however, that this test was run on the beta code of Destiny 2– while the possibility is slim, there is one that things change closer to the final game’s release.

Owing to the fact that the Xbox One X is not yet out, it was also impossible for Digital Foundry to verify how the game runs on Microsoft’s supercharged system. We’ll have to wait for the game, and for the system itself, to release to know that, I suppose.

Did anyone really believe that the PS4 PRO with it’s mere 4Teraflops GPU running at 911MHZ and only 5GB GDDR5 ram available for developers would run Destiny 2 in native 4K ? Come on people don’t be fooled by Sony and Bungie you’re smarter than that

    • Holeybartender

Did anyone really claim that the Pro was a full upgrade to 4k to begin with? Not even before it’s reveal.

    • DA-ROOSTER

When journalists asked Bungie would Destiny 2 run in full 4K on the PS4 PRO they answered yes but obviously checkerboard rendering is not native 4K so yeah Sony and Bungie was trying to fool gamers but thank goodness Digital Foundry got the word out

    • Holeybartender

2160p resolution IS full 4k,it doesn’t matter how they got there. The only one trying to fool anyone is Microsoft by using the words “True 4k” to confuse the public from knowing the real difference between native and up-scaled 4k so when this happens https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-x-performance-detailed-native-4k-proved-d/1100-6451444/ noone will think twice about questioning them.

When Bungie was asked why its not running at 60fps on console they simply replied that all consones are 30fps. When Digital Foundry looked into it us was determined that all consoles, including the X are to weak to handle the CPU physics that Bungie requires.

All that matters is which console makes multi format titles look, sound and run the best and that will be on the Xbox1X.

    • C. Hoffer

      Ultimately I agree.
That’s exactly why Sony has had the lead for the last 4 years. First with the PS4, then the Pro. More powerful console, better looking games with more variety.

The only downside is that when the X comes out, the vast majority of high quality exclusives will still be limited to the Pro. :/ e.g. Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4 + DLC, Last of Us (Part 2), Days Gone, etc.

I didn’t bother mentioning racing games as they are simplistic in terms of hardware demands. After all, a race track is really just a glorified tunnel with pretty pictures painted on the side of it. A lot different than an open world, go anywhere, climb anywhere, shoot anything type game. 🙂

    • Fweds

Predictable that you didn’t ‘bother to mention racing games’, maybe it’s because the lack of them on the PS4 or perhaps it was because the only one they have was an unfinished bodge job yet despite after all the updates could still only run at 30 FPS despite your claims of hardware demands.

The high quality exclusives are limited to Xbox Halo 5, gears 4, Forza Horizon 3 etc
Why have you mentioned an unreleased title (days gone by)you seem to be scraping the barrel.

Whichever console can run the best Res and FPS will always win as you have said and from November that will be the Xbox1X that beats the PS4 pro in EVERY way plus the Xbox1X has more features beyond that.

    Xbox One X 6Teraflops GPU@1,172MHZ
    326GBPS MB
    12GB GDDR5
    9GB GDDR5 reserved for developers
    Vs
    PS4 PRO 4Teraflops GPU@911MHZ
    218GBPS MB
    8GB GDDR5
    5GB GDDR5 reserved for developers

The Xbox One X is definitely more capable of running Destiny 2 in native 4K than the weaker PS4 PRO

    • Holeybartender

But won’t due to parity clauses between consoles created by Microsoft to lessen the thrashing of the weaker Xbox One by Sony.

    • DA-ROOSTER

There’s no parity clauses when it comes to resolution and better textures many games ran better on the PS4 even though Microsoft was marketing the games lol no game on the PS4 purposely ran at a low resolution to match the Xbox One version the reasons why Assassin’s Creed games ran at 900p on both Xbox One and PS4 is because both consoles share the same weak CPU and not because of parity

    • Holeybartender

There wasn’t a parity clause in Assassin’s Creed games?

Even your precious Digital Factory questions why the PS4 couldn’t run at a higher resolution than Xbox One.

Funny how you’re a stuck record, Kirk. Still trying to convince yourself?

  • Mr Xrat

Kirky getting more shrill and panicky. Is it any wonder? Poor little Xgimp.

Checkerboard render makes you a better gamer. Crybaby

    • Fweds

PS Protato can only manage an “illusion” of 4K.
