The latest hotfix for Bungie’s Destiny is live and it’s specifically geared towards PvP. Crucible players will now have matchmaking highly prioritized towards connection quality as opposed to skill and the update will also add Damage Referee (which limits red bar players from having an advantage) to all playlists.

“We’re deploying new settings for how we introduce players to their opponents and teammates in the Crucible. Matchmaking now operates with connection quality as the top priority.”

The update has been part of an on-going effort from Bungie to better prioritize connections in PvP after deploying skill-based matchmaking with The Taken King. Since skill-based matchmaking effectively searches for players across the globe rather than focusing on connection, players had been dealing with latency issues since.

Though there’s still some debate on whether skill-based matchmaking isn’t the best for your average PvPer, there’s been a pretty staunch rejection of the same from hardcore Crucible players who have to endure long search times and incredibly laggy games.
