Destiny’s servers are back online after a hot fix for the game and the Iron Banner live event is in full swing. The event consists of 6 vs. 6 matches in the Crucible where you play competitively against others. The difference between this and regular Crucible matches? Your equipment is no longer levelled out among players, thus allowing you to take advantage of higher attack damage and defense.

Or at least that’s what the idea was. Players are reporting no advantages in equipment while playing in the Crucible – OohaPieceaCandy, a player on YouTube, posted two videos as a level 4 and level 6 player wrecking shop against players in the high 20s.

Bungie’s community manager David Dague is currently soliciting feedback on the mode though. “Were you detecting an advantage attributed to your more powerful gear and weapons? Did the experience feel different than standard Crucible combat?

“Talk to me, Guardians. I know people quit games when they know they won’t win. I’m more curious about your perceptions for how the power-level advantages work. Help me help you.”

That last point is interesting – in Iron Banner matches, only players who win receive Reputation for the event. Losing players receive nothing, which has led players to drop out if the going gets rough early since there is no penalty. What are your thoughts on the Iron Banner thus far?
