MotoGP 14

Ever since the announcement and the subsequent launch of the PlayStation 4, several developers have praised Sony’s decision to include 8GB of RAM in its latest console. Given that 8GB of RAM is more than the average amount of memory found across PCs, GamingBolt asked Andrea Basilio, MotoGP 14’s Director at Milestone, whether they were overwhelmed by it.

“It is pretty difficult to be technically overwhelmed by a new hardware,” Andrea said to GamingBolt. “A developer is also an artist, every time you want to add more and more, and with more power you can push the boundaries further.”

He also talked a bit about the PS Vita version of MotoGP 14. “At Milestone we are very proud of the PS Vita version. The contents are exactly the same as the other console versions. Our new engine pushes Vita to its hardware limits. We also support the Remote Play feature.”

MotoGP 14 is now available for purchase at retail. Do you agree with Andrea’s statement? Let us know in the comments section below. For more on the game, check out our full review of the game here. Stay tuned for more coverage on MotoGP 14 in the coming days.

Of course it’s difficult to be overwhelmed. PS4 is low end budget hardware when compared to a good PC.

    • KP

It’s more mid-lowish. Not that it really matters, it’s a pretty bad comparison anyways.

While the consoles are more “PC” like now, it still doesn’t make sense to compare them to PC’s.

    • JimmyNice

That’s why it’s $399… and a console. Thanks for the comparison though that no one has EVER made before.

We already know an F1 race car can beat an average road car in a race, but most people don’t have an F1 race car so your comment is meaningless. Most PC gamers have far weaker hardware than the PS4 and don’t forget, you’re going to have to drastically overkill the PS4 hardware in order to beat its performance due to the PC being an extremely inefficient beast.

You cannot just compare numbers and expect them to give an accurate evaluation of scale, because there are many variables affecting how each platform makes use of the hardware available. In reality the PS4 is upper mid PC performance. Number comparisons won’t tell you that. You have to use the thing to see it.

  • You are flat out wrong’s mom

    *4.5GB is overwhelming you mean

    • justerthought

PC’s have to use RAM for the OS as well you know and it’s a far bigger OS, plus very few PC gamers have GPU’s with 4.5 GB of GDDR5 RAM on board. What was you’re point again? I’m definitely overwhelmed, but devs will never have enough because it makes their work look good.

“Given that 8GB of RAM is more than the average amount of memory found across PCs”

That might be true for PCs in general, but shouldn’t we be talking about gaming PCs?

    • Anon

The latest “Steam Hardware & Software Survey” would suggest as much, assuming the people using the survey are representative of pc gamers on the whole:-

      http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey

    • KP

It says the highest group on PC are using 8GB at over 27%.

    • KP

Although I guess that would be the mode not the average.

    • And PS4 can use all of its ram (except OS reserved portions) as video ram. The GPU and CPU can work on the same portions of RAM without having to copy memory around.

    • Axe99

It gives a breakdown of all the RAM though – the sum of the 7GB and lower groups comes in at 59.8 per cent. 49.8 per cent of PC gamers (using Steam as a sample, which is probably a reasonable approximation as long as we don’t count Farmvillers as PC gamers) have 4GB of RAM or less. The myth that all PC gamers have beasty machines is just that. Less than 2 per cent of Steam gamers have GTX 780 or better GPUs.

    • ralph richardson

I agree. I’m running a amd 8350 and 7970 with 16gb ddr3, and I compared my machine and found most machines using steam were weaker. That’s saying a lot considering my machine isn’t even the best you can make.

    • Axe99

Too right, I’ve got a decent processor (i7 3770) but my GPU is ‘just’ a GTX 660 – it’s only when you look at the Steam hardware survey that my machine is comfortably in the top 25% of Steam users (and yet sites/opinionated PC gamers call the GTX 660 a mid-range card – which it is in terms of power, but definitely not in terms of market penetration).

    • justerthought

27% is not a high usage of 8GB RAM. 100% of PS4 gamers are using 8GB RAM and its graphics RAM. There is probably only about 2% who have an ultra high end GPU with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM on board, and that won’t be unified memory or HUMA compatible like the PS4.

Then you have to look at what level of GPU the majority actually have. Overall the majority of PC gamers are on far weaker systems than the PS4. That fact is not going to go away unless they spend a lot of money upgrading.

    • Failz

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. 8Gig is the minimal for PC gaming. You cant ran any game today with less then 8Gigs of Ram, unless his talking about playing Candy Crush.

    • ralph richardson

That is a lie, my son plays BF3 with 4gb ddr2 ram. load a game then check your ram. You’ll find out you still have plenty left. 8gb is still overkill when it comes to playing games on the pc. I have 16gb, but I run vm’s. most people only need 4gb.

    • Axe99

You realise 8GB is the min spec for Star Citizen, the highest min spec available. You can run _everything_ with 8GB of RAM (as long as you have at least 1GB of Video card RAM as well).

    • ralph richardson

I’m responding to Failz saying you need 8gb minimum to run PC games. Everyone in my house except myself games with 4gb of ram. 99.9% of games on the PC will run with 4gb. My young son is playing BF3/BF4 and other games with a amd 945 cpu, 4gb ddr3 ram, and a gtx 8800 gpu and he even plays planetside 2 with such a low spec machine. To say you need 8gb for pc gaming is wrong. My pc is a amd 8350, 16gb ddr3 ram, and 280x in crossfire, which is overkill for many games.

    • justerthought

Stop using yourself as a model to speak for everyone else. You are assuming stuff without basing it on facts. A survey was carried out on PC gamers and the majority of them have very weak hardware. The PS4 is high tech for them unless they spend a lot of money upgrading.

    • KP

More people on steam are using 8GB than any other one combination of RAM. That is based on an ongoing internal Valve survey on Steam users.

So before you start making such rude accusations at me, maybe you should ask me what I’m basing my original statement on.

    • ralph richardson

Either way, their not using all of that ram playing games.

    • Axe99

Aye, it’s the highest single configuration, but when you look at the stats, the majority of Steam gamers (nearly 60 per cent) have less than 8GB, and 40-odd per cent only have 4GB or less.

    • ralph richardson

Not really, Ask yourself, just how much ram does your gaming pc use? Even nowadays, 8gb of ram is overkill unless your running other things in the background such as vm’s. Mu son is currently using 4gb ram with a amd 945 and 9800gt and he plays bf3 easily (hes 9, I refuse to get his computer to my pc’s level…. 😉 Now If you want to talk about console vs pc latest gpus, that’s a different matter!

I really don’t like Moto GP14 and it’s GFX so all that tells me nothing.

    • Axe99

Have you tried it? Moto GP 13 had a cracking career mode and some really good racing. It’s fairly sim-oriented, so if you’re more of an arcade racer (or not a racing fan at all) it won’t be your thing, but it’s a good game.

  • RealityCheck2013

The Demo of ‘MotorGP 14’ was Underwhelming(Graphics wise) :-/ The PS4 ‘CAN’ do better than that!!!(Just watch ‘DriveClub’ in the Rain) 😛 😛 😛

Duh, it’s a device for cheap entitled wannabe gamers.

  • justerthought

What was the question? Do I agree that 8GB of unified graphics RAM is hard to be impressed by, or that devs will always want more because it makes their work look good. My answer is no to the former and yes to the latter.
