Devs: The Crew To Target 1080p and 30 FPS On PS4 And Xbox One

Ubisoft’s The Crew has been in development at Ivory Tower for six years now, but its release is now getting closer (finally), and the developers are starting to give us a little more info on what the game will be like and what exactly its specifications might end up being.

Creative director Julian Gerighty, to say the very least, seems very ambitious. He thinks of The Crew as the Pokemon of racers. “We see The Crew as the Pokémon of racing games,” he told GamesTM. “The Crew is a car game, yes, but it’s also and RPG. And an MMO. And what’s the most important thing in any MMO or RPG? It’s your character, right? And in The Crew, your character is your car.”

“It can be a dream car like a Lamborghini, or a little bit more like an everyday car like a Mini,” he continued. “But when it gets more interesting is when you transform that car in something else, by applying a different Spec to it. I like to think of the Specs like evolutions – like Pokemon, imagine driving your car from its level one form to its evolution; that’s the kind of progression we want in this kind of thing.”

When asked about what the game’s visual specifications would be, Gerighty said, “For this game, we are targeting 1080p and 30fps on both consoles.”

The Crew was pushed back from tis early 2014 release some time ago, but it’s supposed to come out later this year for the Xbox One and the PS4. Stay tuned for more updates.

      What’s your problem? The PS4 version has clearly been gimped to match the lowest common denominator i,e Xbone so fan boys like yourself don’t complain if the PS4 version ran at 60fps and 1080p. We all know the extra 50%~ hardware advantage in the PS4 would be near impossible for this game to be identical and whether the fact that Ubisoft weren’t so lazy at programming and just wanted to make a quick buck! It could also be the fact that then genuine wanted to create a cinematic feel and cap it at 30fps. So what’s your point?

      So that’s the new excuse now? Xbox games are now starting to match Ps4 games because the developers are weakening the Ps4 versions on purpose? That’s fanboyism at its finest.

      It’s a racing game and it’s not graphically intensive.

      I can remember when Tomb Raider and GZ were supposed to be at parity too.

      All I’m saying is people need to stop expecting the xbox to underperform for very long. Obviously the hardware doesn’t match the ps4 and that’s fine. But the system is built to run at 1080p and 60fps. So over time it’ll become common place for the xbox to run at that.

      Oh, it can run games at 1080p and 60fps already just fine. It just has to make more graphical tradeoffs than the PS4 has to.

      Your so dumb, NFS rivals would be 30 fps on the Nvidia $50,000 Titan computing boxes cus the physics are tied to the framerate so it cant ACTUALLY go higher than 30fps without acceleration of every car 0-200 in 0.000001 seconds, what ya got say to that?

      its the truth though before they go blaming xbox for the 30 fps frame rate the noobs should go watch NFS Rivals PC version where theyve unlocked the frame rate and they can then see why its locked at 30, its just the stupidity of the devs why its 30 fps

      a cinematic feel isnt capping it at 30 fps, youd have to cap it at 24fps. Dont get sucked in by sonys bull$hit cinematic cr@p, the camera look in infamous was there primarily as an excuse for lod scaling, and order 800p of actually rendered stuff wasnt for a cinematic feel its so they can render 20% less of actual gfx so they could use MSAA and thats it

      Whaddup Mikey Pope!….Now lets keep it real….Ubisoft has made no bones about their other multii-plat titles and making them run “better”/faster on PS4 vs X1. You REALLY think this is any different? C’mon…denial is more than a river in Egypt.

      The PS4 is not a limitless machine so MAYBE the decision was made, not out of parity, but out of consistency and quality.

      Factual PS4 Hardware Advantages: +6 CUs, +560 GFlops (44% greater), +16 ROPs, +6 ACEs/CQs, better GPGPU support, better performing CPU, and faster unified memory. PS4 OS may also have less overhead or reserves.

      Both Sony and MS have world class coders that will extract every bit of performance out of their consoles with their drivers/APIs/SDKs. The difference is PS4 simply has more powerful hardware to work with, so it will always stay ahead in graphics performance.

      The bottom line is even if Xbox had a far more powerful CPU and 10000GB of 10000 GB/s memory, it’s ability to render graphics is STILL limited by the weaker GPU. There’s no getting around the weaker GPU, there’s no free lunch.

      If they’re both running at the same resolution the Xbox version will have lower framerate and/or visual effects, or the PS4 hardware isn’t being pushed.

      PS4 will have better performing games for the entire generation as it has more powerful hardware, you can’t overcome a hardware gap with better drivers/SDKs. Any game running on Xbox One can be run with better framerate/resolution/visual effects on PS4.
