EA Files Desert Strike Trademark

Is a possible desert strike remake from EA is incoming?

EA has officially filed a new trademark for the 1992 hit shoot ’em up up game, Desert Strike. EA was actually responsible for the original game, which was a huge commercial success earning ratings almost universally in the 90th percentile from that era’s most prevalent publications.

There are a few different things this could mean for EA. The first, and let’s hope this is it, is that there’s a Desert Strike reboot incoming. Combining the title’s signature game play with the capability of next gen, or even current gen consoles could make for a hugely successful gaming experience.

The other possibility as I see it is that EA’s original trademark on the title has expired (it’s been about 20 years since the initial release) and they immediately filed to renew so that no one else could capitalize on the opportunity. Given EA’s history of business-before-gaming minded nature, this seems to be the more likely of possibilities without an explicit announcement.
