Fallout 4: Inventing New Perks for the New World

What kind of Perks should be added to the next Fallout?

Fallout Online

Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 4 – in whatever shape and form it may exist in (which we know it does, thanks to some leaked casting call sheets) – has had us thinking for a good long while about just what kind of system it could implement, the direction Bethesda could take, whether or not it should be exclusive to select platforms, etc. This week we talk about the new Perks that the developer could implement.

Long story short, it’s the Perks that define your characters and give them direction. It limits them but it also helps you decide who you want to be and how. There are several ways to implement new Perks in the Boston setting – you could have a Perk that makes you easier to deal with among the lawless at the expense of your people’s skills, or even a Perk that sees you take a hit in Charisma for extended Wisdom and Intelligence.

The possibilities are endless. What would you suggest for new Perks? Let us know in the comments.

I would straight up pay 100 bucks for Fallout 4 done correctly on Next Gen consoles.

I would straight up pay 100 bucks for Fallout 4 released on PC only so they don’t have to make design concessions for console peasants.

Consoles have ruined first person games and most games for that matter, if you have ever played a FPS on a PC you would know that.

    • Dema

      Lies.

i play mainly PC now but used to game a lot more on 360. PC elitists need to really jump off that bandwagon of bashing consoles, it doesn’t make you look cool. you sound like a little b#tch.

I’m not going to lie I first played Fallout 3 and New Vegas on the 360 and fell in love with them, but since the Xbox One came out and I no longer have a 360 I bought New Vegas for my PC and I love it so much more. So to me, it doesn’t matter which Fallout 4 comes out for whether Xbox One or PC, because with PC there’s mods but with the Xbox One I have the ability to talk to my friends that mainly game on the One.

I’d like to see a perk for when you max your level for when you say max a skill in SPECIAL like strength you gain a special ability like flipping cars for cover or tangle with a super mutant in brutal hand combat or with agility you can scale walls like assassins creed or for a temporary amount of time for endurance you don’t take damage going in line with being unstoppable.

lol all of those things would be a huge waste of effort for the developers.

The perks(just like every aspect of the game) need to operate using mechanics that can be used throughout the entire game universe, regardless of the player’s specific skill/perk/trait set, so that they don’t have to waste manpower to make unique things.

even “Bloody Mess”, which has one of those unique physical effects, still relied on the limb breaking animations that are used elsewhere in the game. A developer’s job is to try and have their effect, their mesh, or their game mechanism be reused as many times as possible throughout the game. If it’s something that can ONLY be used by a player who picks a specific perk, then it’s a waste of memory in the game’s files and it’s a waste of effort on the part of the game developers.

Now see I would have to disagree because it would offer so much more to an advanced gameplay that wasn’t present. It would give you a special reward for investing so many points into one area that would make you want to explore into other play styles. I’m not saying make it a perk per say but just an ability you unlock like from a SPECIAL’s menu or such to help with otherwise tedious tasks.

Besides their have been times where climbing a building to get on higher ground for sniping would have been a major help. Flipping over large debris or cars would help when running low on health from incoming enemy fire. Max perception maybe add thermo vision to shoot things otherwise too difficult to aim at and max intelligence to maybe reverse engineer alien tech to boost power armor capabilities, the possibilities are endless.

Love all of these ideas, but agree they should be more common traits to players based on a number of factors not just one particular perk (running up a wall in power armour would just look silly). All of these are asking for a more fluid combat system like that of an FPS that take away from the absolute dependence on VATS that made combat rather boring.
I’d like to see perk trees including a cyborg one where you slowly replace parts of your body with metal arms, night vision eyes etc. you’d probably have a growing dependence on specialist energy cells, so that the more indestructible you got, the more you risk becoming slow and weak should you run out of fuel.
Second thoughts, cyborg enhancements make more sense as a shop/surgery bought perk

    • JB

I agree they would have to be more fluent for FPS gameplay but I’m talking more about given special abilities for the SPECIAL traits. The cyborg would be another cool idea for maxing Intelligence with that survival aspect so nobody becomes too powerful. Great power with some sacrifice, as for perk with the ones from 3 and NV their’s enough but improving on current content would be a major plus. Besides with the new generation consoles and current ones they could really improve on graphics and more natural movement from the character while also including advanced weather to feel more apocalyptic and such.

Cool idea of perks for maxing SPECIALs.

10 LK: 5% chance of that a hostile enemy, alerted to your presence, will be killed by a falling anvil.

10 PE: the compass would display not only show the hostile-status and direction of being, but also graphically show how far away. Same for undiscovered locations.

10 AG: ability to scale walls, cilff faces. (vertical walking). Or a 50% bump in AP.

10 ST: opens a special unarmed-only storyline with rewards for not using weapons

10 INT/CH: opens a special non-lethal storyline where you think and talk your way through situations and problems and get reward for no kills.

Those casting call sheets are fake and if anybody has half a brain cell they will know this. I’m so sick of reading every fallout 4 related article and having them ALL say “oh, look what came up on the internet, let’s believe it 100%.” It’s fake, get over it. It’s not even Bethesda’s MO to write something as terrible as that. Don’t any of you people have any common sense?

    • JB

Yes we know this is fake but if anything Bethesda looks into these sites aswell to flag them as spam and when they look into the comments if they do they will see are comments and might take into account some of are ideas. We know it’s a fake article or false release idea but it does let are imagination run and collaborate on ideas about improving the game we all want. As for the do we all have common sense for reading his article you realize in all your criticism you aswell are on this just like us so your own words apply to yourself and have a nice day.

What about a perk that allows you to fast travel to a point in space in stead of onlytowns? Like if you have been to an area maybe make a 50 foot radius of every open area of fallout four and you can fast travel there. It would make it easier for exploring the world if you need to go back to your base and heal up and would save a lot of time. It would also help if a base you made isn’t in a building, but an area outside of a town. Over time, it would save a lot of repetitive walking

  • FalloutFan555

they have weapon perk that half there weight, why not have a perk that halfs the weight of amour

    • JB

now that would be really handy

  • The cynic

I would like to see your game affected by what you sell to whom. It would be interesting to see things you’ve sold to allies used by them against enemies. For example, it would be cool to see a plasma grenade you’ve sold to a caravaner used against a legion hit squad? Or even against you? I really loved Skyrim but I hope this perk system isn’t TOO much like it.

  • Brandon

Perks are always gonna be great, I’m not so interested in that. I’m more interested in stuff like game play mechanics. I’d like to see some new capabilities depending on how you build your character. If you’re building more like a traditional special ops assassin kinda guy, I’d like to see some Solid Snake style neck snapping and cqc stuff in our outside of the VATS system that was so fun from FO3 and NV. I’d also like to see more marksman stuff all around for those of us who love to immerse and go nuts with all the amazing gun mods that will inevitably get made. Stuff like laying completely prone and crawling around for a stealth bonus and sniping accuracy. . . and for the wannabe ninja assassins out there some leaping from higher surfaces and slicing and dicing, cool stuff that doesn’t make your character look like a Tomb Raider Chesspiece dancing around in the middle of combat.
Some unique stuff like “Nerd Rage!” actually buffing you up and making you turn green or something, instead of just buffing your stats would be a nice tough too, The possibilities are endless, but what I DON’T want to see is more invisible buffs that altar nothing but the lifebars that move up and down etc.

  • CalmFighter7 .

I think they should add super mutant and ghoul to the playable races and add a weather system so you can have acid rain showers that slowly deplete your armor and dust storms that makes it more difficult to move and depletes your health if you don’t have a face mask or helmet on. Weapons i’d like to see is a liquid nitrogen gun, a chain sickle or flail for steath. Perks i’d like to see are new skills and combos for melee weapons to add wider range gamplay for melee weapon users and i’d also like to see a shadow double perk for 100 sneak characters

    • JB

Could you imagine playing as a super mutant or ghoul, that would be pretty cool, be a “successful” human alien hybrid, be an android like from the common wealth looking like the terminator, half human half deathclaw “like an enclave experiment” changing your characters height, weight, muscle tone and such for be amazing like they did in Skyrim.
