Bethesda Softworks clarified not too long ago that the PC version of Fallout 4 wouldn’t simply have the installer available on disc. That isn’t to say it contains the full game, however. According to VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines on Twitter, players will still require downloads from Steam for the rest of the game.

“You will still have to download from Steam. The disc doesn’t contain the entire game.”

The console versions won’t have this problem though due to DRM and shipping on Blu-ray discs. “PC requires activation on Steam. Console does not. Console ship on Blu-rays, PC ships on DVDs.”

The issue is primarily due to piracy though and while many aren’t happy with this approach, Hines stated that, “Well we’ve been doing it this way more or less for 10+ years. Seems to be doing ok. Lots of people bought Skyrim, Wolfenstein, etc.”

Fallout 4 is out on November 10th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Still interested in the PC version? Let us know in the comments.

No point in buying discs anymore.

“The console versions won’t have this problem…”

    What problem?

Anyone who doesn’t have steam at this point is missing out on tons of great deals and an easy way to keep track of hundreds of games without cluttering up your home with CD’s and DVD’s.

To describe getting steam as “a problem” is like saying “I hate having a personal assistant who organizes and keeps track of my things while helping me to find great deals.”

    Oh, the humanity!

Whats the problem? Will it stop me buying it? Nope.
Can a steam game disc be lost? Nope because there isn’t one.
I see buying a game and it being linked to me steam account as a bonus as I know no matter what I will be able to reinstall the game whenever I need to without searching for a disc that could have been lost or damaged.
