Former Naughty Dog Founder: Tablets Will Inevitably Pass PS4 & Xbox One Given Long Console Cycle

Jason Rubin also comments on the Wii U’s sales.

Naughty Dog founder and former THQ president Jason Rubin recently tweeted about the PS4 and Xbox One coming up against more powerful tablets in the next few years. Such a fact has been espoused again and again, especially given the advances made in mobile technology within the past year (the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and Nvidia Tegra 4 are the most recent examples). In a follow-up tweet, Rubin stated that it’s only inevitable given the long cycle consoles have.

Rubin also commented on console exclusive games and how there’s a difference between Sony and Nintendo in the approaches to the same.

And sadly, Nintendo can’t use the aspect of selling more consoles than Sony to justify the same.

Rubin finally confirms what we’ve known for a while: That Nintendo is just merely passing through the next gen console war, especially in light of the successful PS4 and Xbox One launches.

What are your thoughts on the same? Do you believe Nintendo can mount a comeback this Holiday season? Will mobiles and tablets exceed the power of the PS4 and Xbox One within the next few years? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

I suspect that MS will have their next console be a windows RT or x86 device with a standard AMD PC GPU thus giving not only the enthusiast the ability to make a gaming rig that can play Xbox Games, but also taking on Online services like Steam. Let’s face it MS is about 70-80% there with this generation and their WIndows 8 apps being able to easily be ported over. If they get this to work it could mean that games could be written for Windows 8 and work on phone, tablet, and Xbox Next as well. unifying the stores and the experience. Either way it could be very interesting depending on how long they keep this generation around.

We’ll see if he’s still as confident when all his presumptions are wrong, for once.

LOL…without fail, the only people who make these ridiculous statements, are former console/PC devs who have jumped ship to the low effort/high return money-grab opportunities currently offered with handheld devices and social media. It’s the Wii all over again…and no, it won’t last, and it certainly won’t overtake the console market, no matter what the tech specs are. Jason, you’ve done nothing since you left ND, except finish killing off THQ, and remake…then rehash…an old game for iPhone.

Yeah, agree, most mobile/tablet games are garbage shovelware to fill 15 minutes while you are on the go – they do not compare with AAA console or PC games.
