Forza Motorsport 6 May Use A New “Forzatech” Engine

Is a new engine really needed?

It’s beginning to look like Forza Motorsport 6 might be using a new engine that may well be revealed at E3 this June. It has come to light recently that Microsoft has “filed a trademark application for ForzaTech, which is Turn 10 Studios’ proprietary graphics and simulation engine for Forza.”

The trademark for Forzatech was filed this April 2nd, it is therefore likely to be put to use in the upcoming sports racer Forza Motorsport 6. Forza Motorsport 6 is going to be an Xbox One exclusive title and is not to be confused as a sequel to last year’s Forza Horizon 2.

Forza Motorsport 5 was no slouch in the visuals department and it’s that engine that was expanded upon for Forza Horizon 2. Given that included an impressive weather system and a beautiful day and night cycle, it’s hard to predict what a new engine would do for the series outside of better visuals.

First of all , you all criticized the last engine …sounds like you’re scared they’re gonna improve on their already masterpiece ..
Answer to your question , yes yes ! , always room for improvment….

well its supposed to include raytracing for the lighting so the engine will probably be upgraded for that. Im going laugh my head off if it destroys the PS4 games at 60fps

Psionic, where in JoeMontana16’s name did u hear that? Are u guessing that because lighting will be parallelized thru DirectX 12? I’m skeptical for now….

There was an article about it using photo realistic lighting which means ray tracing. Won’t be full blown rayteacing of course just a bit of it. UE4 apparently uses dynamic ray tracing so its obviously a cheap enough method to be used

Was the article an “insider” joint? Hehe. I can’t find it

i dunno it was a whil back

What’s funny is I was just reading this Carmack interview from 08′ in which he states, “Discussing the next generation. Which may very well involve, I’m certainly hoping it involved, ray tracing in the “sparse voxel octree” because atleast I think I can show a real win”. He was referring to traditional rasterization, vs the voxel method up above to do ray tracing. What’s interesting to me is that he really believes(ed) ray tracing can be practically achieved thru this way, for consoles, provided the rendering performance you’d get from SVOGI.

But then again, the only confirmed gpu to support this is the 970 & 980 from what I read. Hopefully Microsoft patented the “ForzaTech” for the reason we think.

ah nice. Hope they put a pc game out using it then so we can see what its like to
