Grand Theft Auto 5 Tops Digital Console Game Sales in US/UK

Still going strong.

GTA Online

While Grand Theft Auto 5  was released quite a while ago, the game is apparently still plenty popular. It’s so popular, as a matter of fact is that it was one of the most purchased digital games on consoles for the month of June. GTA 5 actually finished second in the rankings with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare taking the top spot. The fact that both games actually finished ahead of newer titles, including Batman: Arkham Knight is impressive all on it’s own. The fact that both are older games is even more so.

More impressive than any of that is that while Advanced Warfare and GTA 5 are number 1 and 2 in the United States, those have both finished at the top of the list in the UK as well, though the order is reversed. Perhaps it takes a game to be out for a little bit before it really hits its stride in popularity, at least when it comes to digital copies. Rounding out the top 10 of the most downloaded console games for June were The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited, Batman Arkham Knight, Destiny, Call of Duty: Ghosts, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Mortal Kombat X, Battlefield Hardline and Madden NFL 15.

An awful lot of those games have been around for quite a while. Obviously when you’re talking about a list of 10, you’re going to have some older games, but Ghosts and Madden have been around for almost a year. With rumors of new content coming and new heists being confirmed, it seems Grand Theft Auto 5 has some real staying power.
