Hideo Kojima Works On Everything Himself, Is Very Knowledgeable About The Technical Details Of Game Development

More insights into Kojima's development process from former FOX Engine lead Julien Merceron.

Hideo Kojima

We already knew Hideo Kojima is a perfectionist, obsessed with every last detail, but we never knew how much of a perfectionist he is. Apparently, he demands involvement in each stage of game development, and performs multiple roles in a game’s development, from script and dialog writing, to directing, and producing, himself. And since a lot of game development entails in depth technical knowledge, Kojima is well versed in technical vernacular too.

This news comes to us courtesy of Julien Merceron, who worked with Konami and Kojima as their tech specialist and lead, and who led the development of the FOX Engine. Merceron delivered a speech about his personal experiences recently that DualShockers attended, and in this speech, he outlined that Kojima has a say in everything in the game design process, from development to marketing. He also remarked that Kojima is a true technology enthusiast, and that unlike with other developers, Merceron did not have to ‘dumb down’ his tech speak to be able to communicate with Kojima.

It’s things like these that make Kojima the auteur that he really is, and things like these which lead people to anxiously await his next game. Hopefully it is one for the ages.
