Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Trailer Reveals Assassin’s Creed-like Mechanics

Posted By | On 22nd, Dec. 2012

Square-Enix officially premiered the trailer for the upcoming Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII at Jump Festa. Despite being leaked earlier this week, the trailer featured some new remixed music and got us into the general vibe of how the game will control.

In the trailer, Lightning is seen navigating the city much like in an Assassin’s Creed game, climbing atop poles, jumping across buildings and employing some bit of stealth. Square-Enix has also revealed some additional details regarding the Doomsday clock, set at 13 days. As Lightning completes certain tasks and missions, she can add more time to the clock and give players a chance to save the world. Meanwhile, certain decisions may cut time from the clock rather than adding it. Even more interestingly is the Overclock ability, which allows Lightning to slow things down around her at the cost of time on the clock.

As of now, there will still be an Active Time Based system and a promised 100+ hours of gameplay. Square-Enix is still undecided on how long each game day will be, opting for 1 to 2 hours of real world time. Meanwhile, check out the trailer and tell us whether you can dig an Assassin’s Creed style RPG actioner.
