Lightning Returns: Official Design of Lightning Revealed

And it's not as ridiculous as we thought.

The official design for Lightning, main character of the Final Fantasy XIII series and protagonist of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, which had been under wraps since the game’s initial announcement has finally been revealed. And wouldn’t you know it but that guy who did the art in LittleBigPlanet got it right.

More importantly though, designer Tetsuya Nomura managed to make it look cool without appearing overblown. You can check out the scan in the link below.

Just as revealed before, the costume is a mix of several styles, the Black Mage being the most prominent. The shoulder blades hark back to her appearance in Final Fantasy XIII-2, while the White Mage influences can found in the skirt-like strips adorning her armour. Her new sword looks interesting and appears to be less of a straight blade (with a gap visible in the metal, giving it an appearance similar to Vyse’s cutlass from Skies of Arcadia).

While the shield looks suitably bad ass, it’s tipping the line between “believable” and “ridiculous”. Hopefully, it’ll have more applications than Lightning’s shield in FFXIII-2.
