Nintendo have released a launch trailer for Mario Kart 8, the latest Wii U exclusive that sees Mario characters racing around colourful tracks and annihilating each other will all manner of weapons. Check it out above.

Mario Kart 8 will be the first game in the series to introduce anti-gravity tracks which feature walls and ceilings that you can attach your racer to. You can also transform your kart in various segments to get across stretches of water and rough terrain. Mario Kart 8 also features new characters like Rosalina from Super Mario Galaxy. There’s also an item this time around that can counter the dreaded Blue Shell.

Mario Kart 8 is now available in Japan, Europe and North America. Will it help turn around the Wii U’s fortunes? We’ll find out in the coming weeks – especially with the Media Create sales charts due in the coming week. Let us know your thoughts in the comments about the launch trailer.
