Social media is a big part of making a widely known and successful game franchise that little bit bigger nowadays, and Metal Gear Online have got one of the best Twitter feeds you’re likely to find in gaming. So when they recently hit their 2000th tweet, they decided to drop a bit of information.

The E.Locator, or Enemy Locator, is an all new man-portable thrown device, similar to a grenade, that will designate and mark all players within the range of its initial pulse. The pulse is said to be around 4-5 meters in range, and it will penetrate certain surfaces to reveal hidden enemy units, though whether or not this applies to all surfaces is currently unknown. As it sits, the device can’t be upgraded.

Marking a target is similar to doing so with the binoculars, but of course with the added benefit of being thrown by hand and potentially marking large groups of targets. If you’re tagged, you won’t be untagged by simply running away from the device and escaping its radius, the tag will remain for a short while afterwards.

The device can’t be thrown back, nor can it be picked up or moved. The only sure-fire way to not be tagged, is to avoid it when you see it. Once a target is marked, the entire opposing team can see its location, making it a tactical, powerful and extremely versatile piece of equipment. It’s a snipers best friend if they have support units in the field.
