Metal Gear Solid 5 Will Feature Some of The Best Boss Battles In The Series, Has Plenty of Cutscenes

If there is one thing we don’t know much about Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, it’s the boss battles. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater arguably had the boss fights in the series. So will the boss fights in The Phantom Pain  surpass the ones we fought in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater?

Konami’s Robert Allen Peeler believes that the boss fights in The Phantom Pain will be one of the best in the series. “My personal feeling is that the “boss moments” in The Phantom Pain are some of the best in the series, but I encourage you to try them out yourself come 9/1 and weigh in!,” he said to GamingBolt.

Given that the game is now open world, some players are worried that the  trademark lengthy cutscenes have been shortened. Robert confirmed to GamingBolt that although the custscenes have been paced according to the level design, the game will still feature plenty of them.

“There are plenty of dramatic and amazing cutscenes throughout the game. You are also correct though that the open world design has created new ways to tell stories in the game, including breathtaking moments that are interwoven within the gameplay itself. Also the traditional codec format has been replaced in favour of a radio conversation system using the iDroid and your guides on base, Kaz Miller and Ocelot.”

“Finally, while engaging enemies in the field, or simply planning your next move aboard the ACC high above the ground, Snake can listen to different cassette tapes that either contain 80’s era music or further details about the world around you,” Robert explained.

      Ehh they can when you actually have other things to do besides play video games but still want to be able to enjoy MGS in the time you do have without missing major plot lines. Honestly, I would think only like 10% of people who are that into the storyline would actually want long 30+ minute movie length cutscenes throughout the game. I mean a lot of the time I only have like 30 min to an hour to play so I would rather not spend the entire time watching extra dialogue and animations that don’t add much to the actual game. And honestly MGS 4 had cut scenes that were ridiculous in length (45 minutes straight with no breaks? Really? I love the game but after 20 minutes I was asking when was I going to be able to play again.) You could condense them into more reasonable sizes without losing anything or maybe make the super long scenes an optional thing (Cinematic mode vs Time Saver mode). Idk I just want to be able to play the game without having to plan it out and set time aside like I’m watching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy lol. MGS has a great storyline, yes. But at the same time I don’t really view the game series as a full length movie I want to watch. I always remember the in-game moments and actual gameplay more vividly. And if I am playing the game like the 3rd time through I generally couldn’t care less about the cut scenes and they just annoy me then.

      Yeah but you wouldn’t the first time playing the game. You could miss major plot points, a useful hint or just relevant info to the mission you’re in. In MGS4 you basically didn’t get the helpful info until the last 20 seconds of the 35 minute cut scene. It would be nice if you could fast forward through it or just not have to sit through the whole thing and still get the idea of what’s going on.

    That just goes to show how gamers are so different. It absolutely boggles my mind that anyone would boast that they have “plenty of cutscenes”. Creative designers can weave the story into the gameplay, ala Skyrim without making you feel like you bought a DVD instead of a video game. But to each his own. If you want lots of cutscenes, play The Witcher 3. Amazing game but you’ll spend as much time watching cutscenes as you will slicing up enemies.
