MGS5 – Hayter Says “I Remain Snake in Same Way Connery Remains Bond”

Sean Connery, you Daniel Craig fan-boys.

Hideo Kojima has been all over the place with Metal Gear Solid news. Whether it’s the subsequent teasing and announcement of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain; the shocking news that Ground Zeroes would be released first on both current and next gen consoles, serving as a tutorial; and of course, subsequent mystery as to when TPP will eventually release.

Nonetheless, one of those announcements – the replacement of series veteran David Hayter as the English voice of Snake with Kiefer Sutherland – has attracted its fair share of controversy. However, Hayter doesn’t seem to agree with the statement that he’s no longer Snake. In fact, responding to fans on Twitter, Hayter stated the following:

Strong words, and they follow the rumours that Hayter is indeed involved with Metal Gear Solid 5, in some way or another. Maybe he’ll be making an appearance as Solid Snake, bringing the whole series full circle? Whatever the answer may be, it’s still tough to think of Snake without Hayter’s gruff tone behind the mullet.

Then again, Pearce Brosnan and Daniel Craig took James Bond to new heights. Will Sutherland be able to do the same when Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes releases in early 2014 for PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PS4? We’ll found out in coming months.

There’s no creative reason to swap actors. HK just wanted a famous name fronting MGS5. That’s all there is too it. But Hayter will always be Snake is us

MGS is dead to me with David Hayter. I hope it fails! I know I sure as hell wont promote it. (AND I SELL VIDEO GAMES! Imagine that….)

    • Brian

That is the most pathetic and immature reason to boycott a video game. You are not, never were, and never will be a real Metal Gear fan if Hayter was the only thing tying you to the series.

  • Graham Waldrop

I’m playing this game in Japanese or French. Can’t believe Hayter isn’t in the game still. Hayter is exactly right with that comment, he will ALWAYS be Snake and BB.

  • Gilles Bellerose

I sell video games and MGs is no MGS withoOUT Hayter!!! He is the body and soul of this franchise. God bless him. And Kojima is a piece of shit. nothing more.

    • Brian

…So what was Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2?
Fickle, bandwagon fans…keep your money and don’t buy the game, the real fans of the SERIES don’t want to be associated with you anyway :)

Metal Gear doesn’t have the S :P Given the change away from Metal Gear Solid: Rising to Metal Gear Rising: Reveangeance to distinguish them as different branches, I’d say that’s of note to Hideo Kojima at least.

  • Zen Razor

Bunch of ignorant comments. I love David Hayte but this isn’t Snake this is big boss and you should be greatful for kojima bringing this franchise in the first place

    • CoD511

Always been a bit more grateful to the huge group of developers, actors and whatnot. Also, David Hayter did voice Big Boss in MGS3 at least.

    • NakedBigBoss

He’s taking a hard left into a tree if you ask me. Have you not played Snake Eater, Portable Ops, or Peace Walker? You know, the games that established Naked Snake into Big Boss, the same Big Boss voiced by David Hayter?

I am NOT buying this game. I will NOT be supporting Kojima’s decision to replace David Hayter, who is an American and was born in Santa Monica, CA, with Kiefer Sutherland, who is British and was born in Paddington, London, United Kingdom. I can’t see Kiefer as Snake just like I couldn’t and still can’t Daniel Craig playing a cowboy. Solid Snake is a role for an American just like James Bond is a role for a Brit. Solid Snake is a member of the US Army elite special forces unit FOXHOUND. Solid Snake isn’t a member of the UK’s Royal Army.

theres rumors going around that a character named “david” will be in phantom pain , of course david is solid snake, probably gonna be voiced by david hayter, thus starting the mg1 and 2 remakes. now david hayter wont have to play two characters.

  • Jeff

What’s Solid Snake with out the voice of David Hayter? No one can replace the voice of David Hayter as solid snake this is ridiculous!!
