With one of Microsoft’s stated reasons for having created the Scorpio being their desire to push 4K gaming, no one should really have doubted the company’s commitment to 4K- however, during an interview on the TXR Podcast, Head of Xbox Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg reiterated the company’s desire to be at the crest of the 4K wave with their upcoming console.

Greenberg stated in the interview that Microsoft is “really serious about 4K gaming… it is a huge opportunity.” While conceding that pushing 4K graphics will require a lot of hardware power, he also emphasized that the Scorpio is a “beast.”

Greenberg also shared his own thoughts on the Pokemon GO phenomenon, stating that it’s awesome to see a game that has caught so many people’s attention. “The stories about it are insane,” he enthused, noting that the Pokemon franchise and its fanbase can never be underestimated, and that what the game has accomplished, creating a social experience that everyone can get into, is commendable. He expressed hopes that the newfound interest in AR because of Pokemon GO can be capitalized on, and lead to further development of the format- something which Microsoft themselves are exploring with the HoloLens.

The Xbox One Scorpio is due out by Holiday 2017.
