No secret sauce.

For a while now, some portion of the Xbox One’s fan base believes that the console has some secret sauce in the form of additional components that Microsoft will unleash in the future. However Microsoft’s lead planner for Xbox, Aaron Greenberg has outright denied that such a feature exists within the Xbox One.

Speaking on Twitter, he stated that the components within the console are well understood and there is nothing secret in there. However he believes that just like with the Xbox 360, games will look improve with time. He believes that both the Xbox One and PS4 have improved a lot since launch, however he teases that there is much more to come.

On a related note, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has decribed Xbox One’s line up for 2015 as the greatest in Xbox’s history. He might be right if this previous report is anything to go by. However he is tight lipped regarding whether there will be any megatons during. However, Greenberg did not denied it, possibly indicating that there might be major announcements from Microsoft at E3 and Gamescom.

      Hope so especially Foza.

    • dolphinmania

they wont have much else to talk about, so expect to hear a lot about their sequels

    • Mark

Nothing else? Quantum Break, Scalebound, CrackDown, Fable Legends, Tomb Raider, new Rare game, Gears remake & possible Gears 4 showing. And that’s what we know. Very possible we’ll see Joe Montana on stage too. I’m lost @ ur statement…..

    • dolphinmania

wow thats like all their games! what a wonderful stack of already-known information. 2 new ips, a remaster, and sequels. lovely.

    • Mark

Lovely indeed! That’s without Halo and Forza! Too bad there’s millions of gamers drooling for these sequels u so gracefully sweep under the rug. Haha

    • dolphinmania

LOL idiots drooling. what a lovely image

    • Mark

Drooling for more than Bloodborne haha

    • dolphinmania

Drowning in their own drool, the way all xtards should go.

    • Mark

We’d rather drown in sequels than Bloodborne lol!

    • dolphinmania

      im sure you would…

    • Mark

And if Silent Hills rumour is true, we’ll choke even faster, in dem sequels…

    • dolphinmania

well look at that… ms buying another game instead of making one. surprise, surprise! lacking that oh-so important ingenuity needed in making a video game

    • Mark

I know right, cuz otherwise the game would be cancelled…..”LET IT DIE THEN. MICROSOFT’S GONNA GIVE IT A BAD NAME”. Haha. Have fun with ur new IP, because everyone’s still standing in line for it….

    • Michael

Was Sony showing ingenuity when they bought gaikai? No, but its only bad when MS does something similar.

    • dolphinmania

they bought gaikai for their streaming services, so they can do stuff like remote and share play; they didn’t buy an ip. either way, they’re not buying silent hills

    • Kevin-Y

Right, they didn’t create their own streaming service, they bought it which is the same either way you look at it. They also bought exclusivity for tomb raider keeping it off other platforms back in the day. Theyre not as innocent as you make them out to be.

    • dolphinmania

sony innocent? lol no big cooperation is innocent! listen, I dont care enough to have a discussion of what’s right and wrong, especially over disqus. So good bye

    • dolphinmania

btw, >1mill in less than a month for a console-exclusive IP… lol yea… guess you can’t say the same for these sequels

    • Mark

Oh, < 2 million sales with a userbase of 22+ million, and hasn't been in the top 5 software since release…….that's about 1 outta 10 PS4 owners. Impressive! U guys r just drownin in exclusive IP! Lol. I'm sure the other 9 are happy. Haha.

    • Mark

Wow, < 2 million sales with a userbase of 22+ million, and hasn't been in the top 5 software charts since release…….that's about 1 outta 10 PS4 owners who. I'm sure the other 9 are happy. And

    • dolphinmania

wow, clearly you live in america! only an american can think so locally. its been on the charts in UK and Europe for a while now. but that doesn’t matter because 1-2 mill sales for a new IP in 2 months is incredible! but someone so close-minded like you can’t see beyond that. Have fun with your sequels and blow-em-ups.

    • Mark

Errr, even if I am, US sells the most games, haha. Hope u were jokin. Less u think ur Bloodborne’s gonna reach 3 mill, I suppose so, u keep saying “in 2 month”, as if it has legs….

    • dolphinmania

google it, moron. US isn’t the #1 gaming market. never has been. I keep saying “2 months” because it’s been ~ 2 months since release, you twot

    • Mark

U upset? Do me a favor & punch in any game u can think of, and wake me up when u find what region sells most.

      http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=Bloodborne

    • dolphinmania

No, but you clearly are. Console games just play and sell better on ps4. But that’s not a surprise with the 2:1 global ratio.

    • Mark

I’m waiting to see those official #s bud. U got em?

    • Michael

      Yea, Indies…lol

    • dolphinmania

      yea, all genres… lol

    • Mark

      Oh, and if u don’t trust VGCHARTZ, here u go…..US spends more than every other region on games (updated April 2015);

      http://www.newzoo.com/free/rankings/top-100-countries-by-game-revenues/

    • dolphinmania

lol no one in their right mind trusts vgchartz.

    • Mark

I could easily grab some NPD numbers n match em up with Vg’s data….u want em?

    • Mark

Bloodborne’s sales are dried up, they blew their load but, oh yeah, I shouldn’t be debating a guy with the Bloodborne avatar lol. U gotta be playin around here.

    • Mark

I’ve done my job here….u should thank me for pullin u out the rabbit hole too. Peace

    • dolphinmania

so listen, mark. I don’t want to keep talking to you. just go to listwars.com for a more detailed picture. enjoy your vcr. oops, i mean “gaming console”. I’ll enjoy those xbone exclusives as well on my PC.

    • Mark

Please with the listwar argument. Most PS4 owners don’t care about 70% of those games…..straight indie and double A shovelware. S’why Sony barely mentions #s with their exclusives. And got their fans port begging…..nobody cares about those games listed, as we all (on both sides) haven’t had that big must have exclusive yet.

However, the PS4’s about to go into hibernation the rest of the yr. And I know, because ur on PC, ur faaar away from the Xbox, and Microsoft…..oh wait. Have a good one.

    • dolphinmania

oh wow now you speak for the ps owners and the xbox owners! you must be someone so important

    • Mark

Nah, just the numbers do. No game on ur beloved platform sold more than 2 mill, out of 22+million! And lets not mention the ridiculous amount of petitions and port begging for Xbox games. Nobody bought their systems for indies and double A games. Perhaps u did, but ur an odd one.

    • Mark

Who, in their healthy brain, will take Halo 5, Gears 4, RotTR, and attempt to make mince meat of them…….but a nut, like u! It’s one thing to be uninterested, but we’re in another dimension when u reduce 2 of the best selling exclusives, on any console, to Ant-Man like proportions…..wow.

    • Orion Wolf

The same could be said for Sony and the exclusives for the ps4, most of them have been announced quite a while ago, among them, there are a few sequels (UC4, GT7) and even a rumored remaster, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t welcome or that it makes them bad, far from it.

We have no idea what either company will be showing, but dismissing games like halo, gears, forza and especially the new TR (the same with UC4, GT7, new god of war etc.) is a bit of a fanboyish move.

    • Michael

You just described Sony’s lineup perfectly. Their launch was crap and its games lineup is still suffering. Maybe they will bring back the last guardian from the dead….lol

    • Orion Wolf

Well considering the games are releasing this year (H5, F6) and they are the biggest xbox franchises, I don’t see why not.

Besides with Forza we have a relatively short trailer, so some gameplay would be more than welcome.

    • Mark

Man he’s a Sony fanboy. That’s their way of damage controlling their line-up; “U Xbots only got a bunch of rehashed sequels and 2 new IP”. Thus, a horde of indies (ie. No Man’s Sky), a bunch of double A’s (see Tearaway & Until Dawn), a hint of triple A (Persona), is exciting because it’s “VARIETY” lol.

    • Orion Wolf

I’ve read his later comments … he’s not a unbiased person that’s for certain.

It’s all personal preference in the end, but I don’t get the point of some of the comments. Like the “we have more
games, so you’re console is worthless”, what’s the point of talking numbers when it comes to games (indies mostly – looking at listwar) most aren’t something people will actually buy in the end?

And how is the x1 worthless or a “non-gaming” (i.e. vcr) console (which people tend to imply quite often) when it’s getting quite a few exclusive triple A games which are considered some of the best games in the industry and contrary to some beliefs, it’s selling quite well.

Although I have to wonder if this rage has to do with Mr. House using the word “sparse” and all the jokes surrounding it and the mocking ps4 owners (fanboys) have received since then.

  • Cenk Algu

There is no secret sauce or components in the console. There are somethings that community do not know.We did not know that the console 8gfx contexts till it was leaked by a hacker or did we?

This article is a comedy show at best and feeding the troll on N4G.

    • papasmurf

      Albert p>>>>>>>>>> internent biased troll

      You lose

  • GHz

I support Phil & Albert on their answers to fans in regards XB1 tech. They dont need to go there. They keep their answers simple. Whats laughable is how pple want to exaggerate how minimal. They need to give it a rest and let the games do the talking. We are seeing good looking games on both platforms.

    • Mark

Yeah actually it was Albert Pennello refuting the “secret sauce” claims…..as he’s done last yr too haha.

    • Michael Norris

I like the way Phil answers questions,he seems to understand the situation clearly.People for whatever reason figured MS was hiding some secret hardware within the APU.

    • GHz

wasn’t really about hidden hardware, but just something hidden overall. They were clear on not wanting to discuss certain aspects of the console from early on. Remember MSFT XB1 architecture reveal @ hotchips 25 2013?

“Microsoft gave a talk about the Xbox One architecture at Hot Chips 25 and while they shed light on lots of the architecture THEIR WAS A FAIR BIT LEFT OUT.”

      http://semiaccurate.com/2013/08/29/a-deep-dive-into-microsofts-xbox-ones-architecture/

Even when it came to XB1 features supported via hardware, MSFT keep them hidden even from their partners such as AMD. They have finally addressed these hidden features @ Build& GDC 2015 though. But even then, they still have things that they dont want the public to know yet….

      Most recently
      https://a.disquscdn.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/2105/9673/original.jpg

And days before that Boyd Multerer, former MSFT engineer again proved that MSFT are not ready to disclose XB1 hardware in full for w/e reason.

@LeandroParrill1 @mikeberkley Correct. I can’t. Wish I could. Other than that, I think everyone is obsessing about the wrong things.— Boyd Multerer (@BoydMulterer) May 23, 2015

So pples suspicions are validated. So when MSFT say nothing hidden, I think they mean to the pple who need to understand what the machine is about, like DEVs. For us reg pple we have all the info we need, and are better off concentrating on what really matters, the games, and if thats the case, I 100% agree.

  • Starman

Love to twist words ‘GB’ just like a fanboy ,”you would like for nothing to be under their” he never said no what he said was “there are no secrets , all is very well understood”
I’m not saying there is or isn’t but , he never said no to the question .. now you can take it how you want it …
IF Sony said exactly what he said in response to the same question , you would’v been more optimistic toward it really being something under their… and all the fanboys who read this will agree with you …lol

A previous article posted about Sony , saying it themselves(from the horses mouth) clearly stated they have no games ..fanboys came out in hordes and said the total opposite …
Moral of the story is: Positive news for XBOX get’s analyzed and shot down………..Sony’s reports get hyped up.”If Sony said it , it’s so…

    • Cypher-Unknown

You claim people are twisting words yet then say that Sony have stated they have no games.

Care to provide a link where Sony clearly say “we have no games”.

This thread has already hit a high level of hypocrisy. We have a troll calling someone else a troll and someone complaining about words being twisted whilst twisting someone’s words.

      Phenomenal.

    • Mark

Well Starman’s defenitely up there lol. But most of us aren’t trolling. One thing’s certain tho, whenever there’s a mention of resolution or hardware power, those same fanboys (on all sides) pop up…..hahaaa. A debate over opinion is cool, but when people start to dish out all things negative about ONE company……that’s a Troglodyte alert!

  • Mark

Man lemme just see Halo and Scalebound, BOOOM! All will be well lol.

  • Riggerto

I’m not sure if you are aware but it is impossible to open an Xbone and view the tech inside. Various attempts have been made with jackhammers and dynamite but to no avail… I guess we may never know what is inside this great box of mystery.

  • XanderZane41

Microsoft wouldn’t tell anyone if there is or isn’t anything in the XB1. Not until they are good and ready. M$ definitely of Secret Sauce and gamers definition of secret sauce are completely different. lol!! Everything that needs to be in the XB1 is already in the XB1, that’s for sure.

  • Michael

No secret sauce needed. They will still have the best E-3. Their games lineup is still the best.

    • Michael Norris

I will give you that but i think E3,Sony will unleash their first party lineup games.

  • Xbox One was my first Xbox console, and I have say, I’m severely disappointed. Has anyone else had as many issues with their Xbox as I’ve had with mine? Connection issues, disconnecting from Xbox live numerous times a day, not powering off when supposed to, freezing and needing to hard reboot, commands not responding, and even calling support just to get some “fixes” that end up not fixing anything, and being told it’s my connection, when clearly my connection is fine. I’ve even resorted back to my PS3, because I’m fearful the PS4 will do the same thing, not to mention I have no need for two consoles. I guess people who don’t have the issues don’t understand, and will continue to praise it’s “awesomeness”, but not me, just a disappointed consumer who will think twice about a next gen console from Microsoft.

    • Michael

Man get out of here with all that bullcrap. You sound like those fanboys who claimed they bought 8 xbox360 consoles last gen and they all crapped out. To answer your question, no. No one else has all those problems you claim you’re having. If you have no need for 2 consoles why did you buy 2? Stop lying, Pony.

    • lol like I said, people who don’t have the issues will continue to praise it’s awesomeness, but glad you make up the other 99% of Xbox One users. Don’t know where in my comment I said I bought 2 consoles, other then my previous gen ps3 I’ve had for years, but you’re clearly a raging idiot, not going to entertain you.

    • Kevin-Y

You can’t get your console to work properly when most people can. You sound like the idiot in this case.

    • Xbox fans unite, how typical.
