Well, this is awkward. EA recently revealed Mirror’s Edge 2 – or at least we assumed it was – at their recent E3 press conference. The game, for lack of a better word, looked awesome. But then EA went and shot itself in the foot by announcing that the game would be releasing for Xbox One, PC and PS4 “when it’s done”.

Not cool, EA. Not cool. But it gets better. Apparently, the game was never confirmed as Mirror’s Edge 2. And the trailer itself – showing Faith getting her signature tattoos made – should have been our first hint that it was a reboot aiming to tell an origins story.

Indeed, a press release for the same has confirmed that, “The new Mirror’s Edge reboots the franchise for the next generation with advanced visuals and an all-new origin story for Faith.”

Rebooting a series that’s only one game old and then not even giving any indicator as to when it releases? Not cool, EA. Just not cool at all.

It’s not the most fun thing to hear, that there’s no concrete release window, but I’d rather EA give DICE all the time they need to make this right, rather than a date that ends up cutting production short. I knew a lot of people who liked the original, and a lot who very much didn’t, due to some guesswork platforming and awkward gun mechanics; I’d like to see DICE refine the parkour and hand-to-hand combat systems to their absolute best, bringing a game to the table that properly and completely executes the gameplay ideas the first game set out to prove. If that takes time to pull off, so be it!
