New Mad Max Screenshots Bring The Gloom

I have to say, I am not as skeptical as I would like to be.

Mad Max

If this were any other publisher helming the new Mad Max game, I would be very leery and skeptical of it- to me, it would seem like a misguided attempt to cash in on the nostalgia surrounding a classic, well regarded movie, to tie into the launch of its remake later this year. But this is Warner Bros., and these folks have made an artform of taking their movie properties and launching successful games based on them. They did it in 2009 with Batman: Arkham Asylum, which is now one of the tentpole franchises in gaming. They did it last year with Middle-earth: Shadow od Mordor. Who is to say they won’t do it again with this new Mad Max game?

These screenshots certainly fill me with a lot of confidence. They look high quality, and it seems like Warner Bros. is willing to go the extra mile to do its property justice. Which is why, I think, Warner is in a unique position to reverse the trend of poor movie tie ins that has plagued the industry for so long- the games they make are based on the movies that they also make. They respect their own IP.

Mad Max will launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on September 4. Check out the full gallery of the new screenshots Warner Bros. released for it below.
