Nintendo hints at a Wii price cut

Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, has suggested a price drop might be used to extend the Wii’s lifecycle.

Many have been anticipating a Wii 2 announcement for some time now, but Nintendo stress that the Wii still has some life left in it. “The Wii has a long life in front of it,” Fils-Aime said. “We’re still sitting at $199. There are a variety of marketing tools at our disposal.”

But will a price cut really help the Wii stay relevant as graphical technology keeps advancing so quickly?

Thanks to Gamasutra for the info.

Well, if you can’t afford a PS3 or an Xbox, than yeah, I’d say it could still compete if they take the price down.
$150 console with $40 to $50 games vs. $300 console with $60 games?
you’ll swallow the graphics difference if it means you get to own a console to play on.
I would save up for the better consoles or a PC, but I’m not other people ya know?

I mean, I have a Wii; I just don’t play it. There’s nothing to do on it, even with Nexflix I’m still not going to play it.

same thing here, my wii is literally a paper wight right now. they can sell it for 100 $ gamers wont buy it, maybe some families for their children.

They should just announce the Wii2. I’ve of the same opinion as many others who bought it as it came out that there is nothing really to play on it except for the occasional Brawl.

They should have cut the price already. I bought a new 360 arcade 4 $200 like 2 yrs ago. It would definitely help sales, cuz any1 who was gonna drop 2 bills on it did already.

True…. but I just wish there was something to look forward too.. on the console.

they should drop that crap system down to 150, it’s not that innovative and not that many people I know play it. Many of them seem to have gotten it only to be severely disappointed.

There is a new Zelda game in development & The Conduit 2 looks pretty good but other than than I can’t think of much on the horizon.

That’s only two games, in a whole year other than those two, I won’t be picking up my Wii to play anything.

how many zelda and mario games can they make before its obvious that this is what they rely on to survive?

of course the wii is going to have a price cut…their sales are starting to stall…i want to see how they pull out of this one.

they could be doing an inventory clean up to make way for their announcement of a new nintendo. or to concentrate on the 3ds.

I’m sure my Wii feels like a red headed stepchild. I don’t think I have turned it on since I finished the Goldeneye remake. It was excellent btw if u r lookin 4 a Wii game.
