NPD June 2017 Report: Sony Outsells Competition With PS4 Slim Discount

Nintendo Switch credited for catalyzing hardware spending.

The NPD Group has provided some preliminary results for its June 2017 report and noted that the PlayStation 4 was the top-selling console for the month, spurring ahead of the Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. This is primarily thanks to the gold 1 TB PlayStation 4 Slim model that arrived prior to E3.

This SKU was actually offered at a limited time discount for $250 (the console’s price has gone back u to $300 since then). With the new colour and overall limited edition status that it brought, sales were driven up in favour of Sony’s console.

That being said, Nintendo Switch sales are still very strong. Limited supplies may still be hindering consumers as many have reported not finding the console in shops. Regardless, NPD analyst Mat Piscatella stated that overall spending on hardware compared to the same period last year had risen by $1.4 billion. The Nintendo Switch was credited as being the catalyst for this growth.

Consoles usually do sell better with a temporary price drop.

Who would buy a PS4 that color in the pic ? It’s terrible.

Plenty, which is why they won June sales

Didn’t Xbone also have a steep price cut around the same time as the PS4 last month?

Nice damage control by Ravi and you, Hcw247. 10/10.

What happened to that awesome comeback, Xgimps? Before Xgimps do that “but muh Xbollux” excuse, loads of people got the Bone S last year even though they full knew what was coming up.

Seems they’re trying to damage control for Xbone by blaming it on the temporary PS4 price cut. LOL

Yet the PS4 sold nearly 400, 000 last month in the USA and Xbone sold about 150, 000.

The PS4 would’ve outsold the Xbone regardless of a price drop like it has been doing nearly 2 to 1 every month this year in the USA.
