Overwatch Season 2 of Animated Shorts Currently in Development

"Making good progress" according to director Jeff Kaplan.

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch made an impact for several reasons, including its animated shorts. With a particular focus on characters like Winston, Soldier 76 and Bastion, the animated shorts were a big hit among fans. Thankfully, we’ll be getting more.

According to director Jeff Kaplan while speaking to Polygon, season 2 of these shorts is currently in progress. “The animated shorts are probably the thing that we have the most fun making. We really love working with our animation group and digging out the stories not tied to any constraints of gameplay — we can tell any stories we want. We plan to tell more of those. We’re hard at work on more of those.”

Though the last major short featured Sombra at BlizzCon 2016, the first season is considered to have ended with The Last Bastion, showcased at Gamescom 2016 in August. Kaplan noted that, “They take a long time. We think of them as in seasons. That’s how we talk about them internally. So our first season started with ‘Recall’ [the Winston short] and ended with ‘The Last Bastion.’”

Season 2 currently has no date for its debut but it is “making good progress.” Which heroes would you like to see? Let us know in the comments.
