Phil Spencer Clarifies DLC Exclusivity Comments

Spencer responds.

Posted By | On 28th, Dec. 2016 Under News

A few weeks back, Phil Spencer got the attention of the gaming community when he said he wasn’t a big fan of console exclusivity for a game’s DLC. He’s not even a fan of that exclusivity if it’s just a timed exclusive. After the Microsoft exec made those comments, plenty of people jumped all over him, pointing out Microsoft has certainly engaged in these practices since he’s been in his current position.

After taking fire from several Twitter users he clarified his comments tweeting out, “people getting worked up on this, Never said Xbox has never done this, not calling out others, just not practice I like, that’s it.” To some degree, the fact that he was willing to say such a thing is admirable, precisely because his company has absolutely engaged in timed and full on DLC exclusivity.

Now we’ll just have to wait and see if him not liking the policy leads to the change. Is he going to make sure Microsoft doesn’t do this in the future?

This just further proves the gaming community is full of safe space entitled crying man babies.

Just because i dont like doing something doesnt mean i wont do it. Market realities, or just reality in general forces you to do stuff you dont like. Guess what crybabies…i dont like to work! Yet i go to work!

Shut up stupid. Market realities should force him to build a better console with better exclusives to compete better with his outstanding competition. This ain’t no damn charity where people are giving their hard earned money away for mediocrity and brand loyalty. You either compete with a better product or you close up shop. Aint nobody trying to listen to your arrogant defense of Phil Spencer and your dumb “market realities” line of bulldookie.

    • lagann

Ok, let’s try this by steps.

      1) He did build a better console. It’s called the Xbox One S.

      2) “Market realities” is exactly what you are saying. Sony is “teabagging” them on sales and also have DLC exclusivities (better ones than Xbox too)….hence, “market realities” states that he must also do so even if he doesn’t like it.

So fundamentally you are agreeing with me on the market realities so i’m not sure why you wrote a paragraph about it. And stop with the childish insults…makes it seem like i’m replying to a child.

    • crazy_black_man-

The Xbox One S is not a better console. It has a whole host of issues all of its own. Youre making excuses for exactly what he’s complaining about. His moneyhatting nature and his inability to grow the brand through studio acquisitions, and better IP development. And speaking to your complaint about insults, are you the one who just called people, “manbabies, or something stupidly similar to that? Go sit down. This aint the Xbox One circlejerk section of Reddit.

I wasn’t sure if I should have replied to your reply to me but i should have exercised better judgement next time.

Having seen your past posts on this site, you are just gonna do the console war dance which I’m not gonna waste time doing. Find some friends irl do it with.

Also, glad you were triggered by my first post. Go back to your safe space now. I’ll let you have the last word.

    • crazy_black_man-

      The last word? Seriously?

I already had the last word Felicia. You’re done for the day. Go off somewhere else and try and sound like the rational one in another game forum with that same stinking attitude and see how far that gets you. Bye now.

Oh, and speaking of Man Babies…who is this crying manbaby below? Hypocrite much? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4bfebb79b43dd759a669d789771890bbbcce345a96129fa8649a65b79dbe9967.png

As you know I own the Xbone as well as the PS4, and I’ve played Destiny on Xbone more than PS4, but I’ll just like to state it doesn’t matter to me that MS got the short end of the deal with the game as last gen it was always the PS3 that got that short straw due to MS offers, BUT the good thing is this…. Maybe after Phil crying about the matter MS know their place this gen like Sony was made to do last gen.

Two wrongs don’t make a right but sometimes an eye for an eye has to be done☺ MS must have thought they would be in the lead this gen with console support and sales, and guess what, that isn’t the case and the exclusive content went with Sony this gen instead. Otherwise MS / Phil wouldn’t be crying about it.

    • crazy_black_man-

Absolutely. They never thought they would be in this position.

  • Riggybro

Oops he went off the Xbox marketing narrative accidentally.
    Retreat! Retreat!

  • crazy_black_man-

Dear Phil. No one likes your blatant hypocrisy, and hearing you whine about something that Microsoft is notorious for doing. Next, you’re going to tell us you’re a very good practicing Christian, but also one who supports your presidential candidates having the right to fondle women against their will. How sickening.
