Phil Spencer Clarifies DLC Exclusivity Comments

Spencer responds.

Posted By | On 28th, Dec. 2016

A few weeks back, Phil Spencer got the attention of the gaming community when he said he wasn’t a big fan of console exclusivity for a game’s DLC. He’s not even a fan of that exclusivity if it’s just a timed exclusive. After the Microsoft exec made those comments, plenty of people jumped all over him, pointing out Microsoft has certainly engaged in these practices since he’s been in his current position.

After taking fire from several Twitter users he clarified his comments tweeting out, “people getting worked up on this, Never said Xbox has never done this, not calling out others, just not practice I like, that’s it.” To some degree, the fact that he was willing to say such a thing is admirable, precisely because his company has absolutely engaged in timed and full on DLC exclusivity.

Now we’ll just have to wait and see if him not liking the policy leads to the change. Is he going to make sure Microsoft doesn’t do this in the future?
