Project Scorpio Will Cost $499 “Unless Something Changes” – Geoff Keighley

Analyst firm also weighs in on potential price.

Microsoft’s Project Scorpio will be the center piece of the company’s E3 2017 press conference with a release date, price, design reveal and hopefully a final name. Though the price has yet to be confirmed, Geoff Keighley says it will be $499.

The noted host and man behind The Game Awards said on Twitter that, “I can now say with confidence Project Scorpio is $499. Unless something changes today, that is what will be announced.”

Analyst firm IHS further predicted that the system will retail for $499/€499/£429. “The expected price differential between Project Scorpio and Xbox One S is high enough to reduce the impact of the new platform on the broader console audience.

“Project Scorpio is not the device to re-ignite Xbox One sales in continental Europe and to gain market share from Sony in key sales territories outside of USA and UK.”

Again, this isn’t official confirmation from Microsoft so stay tuned for the company’s press conference at 2 PM PST to learn more.

Just leaving this in here, in case someone wants to discuss further about ArseTechnica’s (typo stays) data about Backward compatibility.

ETA: If that’s the price, I was hoping for 50€$ less, but if the console is as powerful as it seems to be, I guess that it’s the right price for its value, even lower than its value.

    • ArseTechnica 😉 wrote a retraction this morning lolol…

    • heima

Too late, damage is already done. I doubt will we see the news somewhere else, other than in comments like mine.

    • Riggybro

Unfortunately that’s what happens if your a big company that is reluctant to release clear and transparent stats. People will speculate.

    • heima

True, problem is that we are far from speculation at this point.

    • Riggybro

Where do I find the actual stats?

    • Gamez Rule

      Within the article is states..

“But Microsoft has not provided us with sufficient information to answer this question of relative comparison reliability to our satisfaction, simply saying it considers the current analysis “grossly inaccurate and misleading due to an incomplete set of data and drawing conclusions about actual usage from data that approximates usage.”

“Microsoft has given us no significant reason to doubt the basic reliability of the separate “ownership” sample in our report, which measures what games show up on the public Achievement lists on Xbox . com”

Why hasn’t MS released information to them?

      SAD! Covfefe!

    • heima

Haven’t you read the article? I suppose that yours is an attempt to state that with “no actual stats” the previous data are ok, despite the fact that in that article is clearly written that data collection and methodology were completely inaccurate (that is: incorrect conclusions).
Tell me, if the percentage of usage of bc is as low as some people love to believe, why would MS spent thousands (hundred thousands) of dollars on it? They aren’t a NGO, remember? And it’s a feeble argument that BC is used as marketing, considering how supposedly noone is interested in playing last gen games.

    • Riggybro

I agree with the numbers Xbox Mike Nichols gave. He works for Xbox.

    • heima

And you read them as you see fit, I suppose.

    • Agreed, but posting it where I can. I would bet Sony paid for that article to be written considering how close it came out to Ryan’s statements…

    • heima

More likely Ryan knew about that study and caught the opportunity to damage Xbox (Sony is pretty good at dirty tricks like this one). Needless to say, gaming sites followed on the heels since hating on MS seems the right thing to do to get clicks.

    Scorpio unofficial £429
    PS4-Pro ………… £325 ( price cuts may be coming )
    PS4 …………………£170
    Xbone ……………..£160

Quite a price jump from Xbone base model to Scorpio, I think Scorpio needs to sell at £399 max as I believe PS4-Pro will also drop in price.

    • Psionicinversion

you cant just keep dropping prices on stuff like that. The pro will of had time to reduce its price scorpio hasnt

  • Psionicinversion

yeah. havnt tried that fast sync yet got hammered on thursday night so havnt phoned em up yet, but im still within my 14 days so worst case is i dont get all my money back they may take like 10% or something if they dont accept my problem as a fault.

    • Gamez Rule

Just send it back mate. It’s not fit for purpose.

    • Psionicinversion

yeah. i decided buy gears 4 i did have massive performance problems with it yesterday but dummy me bought a 3m displayport 1.1 cable and might not of been getting enough bandwidth above 60 fps but locked it to 60 and most of its gone. some cutscenes bit choppy but actually in game is clear now

  • Gamez Rule

A powerful hardware console with no exclusives is really hard to sell at any price let alone one that’s set at a higher price than other consoles on the market which offer more game support for less cost.

This is another reason MS Scorpio could be a white elephant when compared to PS4-Pro that already has more gaming support with exclusives as well as VR support for a lesser price.

Why does PS4 still outsell PS4-Pro? So why do some people think Scorpio will outsell Xbone? I believe although the new console will sell, it will still move less hardware than Xbone/s as PS4 does with PS4-Pro.

    • Psionicinversion

well the people that believe scorpio will outsell x1 are fools, probably part of the crowd that listen to big gamer small talk with nxtgen and crapgamer and mooch (damn that guy used get on my nerves), even phil knows it isnt going sell well.

if i was a console only gamer id buy it though if my jam was mostly multiplats because why wouldnt you want the best and the £429 potential price tag = not alot. my 1070 wasnt far off that price

It could be good though because like the dude from Digital Foundry said with 2 consoles on the market its even more likely theyll take some time even just to add in better resolution and my thoughts are when the true next gen starts youll still be able to play those game in “4K” or real 4K maybe unstrap the framerate to without any developer interference and you can keep rocking your games on your new system without needing patches

    • Gamez Rule

      This is correct.

IMO I really believe that Scorpio is to late to the party. IF the console released at the same time as PS4-Pro it may have been looked upon better than what it is nowadays.

    • Psionicinversion

i dont think scorpios to late tbh. there needed to be a year gap really cus people wouldnt of bought both so allows time for people to save up for the next one and with 1 1/2 years notice they can plan ahead, really far ahead

  • heima

I’m not dealing with any kind of complex, I appreciate your concern and your attempt to downplay my words with the hint at some kind of mental disability.

  • Wei Feng

PS4 pro price drop and the Scorpio is born dead
