PS3 Hacker ‘Geohot’ Flees To South America

Posted By | On 24th, Mar. 2011 Under Industry News, News

The bizarre story of George ‘geohot’ Hotz, the hacker who Sony are suing for making the PS3’s security key public, has taken an even stranger twist. According to a court document filed by Sony, after Hotz was ordered to hand over his hack related hard drives: “Hotz had deliberately removed integral components of his impounded hard drives prior to delivering them to a third party neutral and…Hotz is now in South America, an excuse for why he will not immediately provide the components of his hard drives as requested by the neutral. Hotz’s attempts to dodge this Court’s authority raise very serious questions.” Hotz has fled and South America is quite a big place…

Why is Sony even allowed to hound this guy. He did nothing that violates the DMCA, at least in terms of Jailbreaking his device. He needs a good lawyer to go back after Sony and get them to back down.

  • PilarVIRUS

He actually just no vacation, but if he was… he would be a bada*** motha’ fo in my book.

    • tareq salah

lol you know this kid can be made into a movie, this is quite a story.

    • and you can count on holywood to make it into a movie. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what he’s doing all this for. He needs money to pay for lawyers and that’s whhy he made that rap video and now he’s making his decisions diligently so as to set himself up for a potential future flick about his ordeal with Sony. What would be really funny is if Sony produced it…………….either everything I just said or he sabotaged the hard drives because he has illegal data of one kind or another on said hard drive. Shouldn’t have been hacking banks and government files Geohot!

    • tareq salah

yeah i bet there are more than sony info in his hard drive. but seriously as much as i hate hackers i don’t think his life should b at risk or be chased around the world for something ike that. it feels too much

    • I actually don’t hate hackers, they help us by making The companies whose systems we buy appreciate their loyal customers a little more. They also show give a peek as to what potential their hack of choice may have. They’re not always malicious, sometimes they just want something the company doesn’t off. But yea you’re right he shouldn’t feel he needs to run and for all we know he’s not running. Perhaps he’s just away on business, or being slick and disposing of evidence.

    • tareq salah

i doubt he would go to south america for business. it looks like hideaway.

    • PilarVIRUS

I mean, if he wanted to get away from Sony why would he go to South America, don’t have have a Sony South America?

This story keeps gettin stranger & stranger. Next thing u know they will send the A Team after him. Note 2 self: never piss off multinational multibillion dollar corporation.

    • Actually, he may have made the smartest decision ever by pissing them off. Anger and frustration only leads to hasty irrational decisions. That movie “The Social Network” was basically about how Mark Zuckerberg pissed a bunch of people off, but through that anger and frustration, instead of ignoring him, they gave him more and more attention. Giving him more and more power and in turn more and more success. Whether or not you liked the movie, think the guy’s a tool, or just hate facebook is all irrelevant. What matters is that he’s a billionaire, and he got there by making the right decisions. The same may be said about this Geohot guy in the end. Then again he may just be another moron who just pissed off a major corrporation.

    • tareq salah

lol the A-team. i bet you this kid becomes famous and apear in movies and as a villian in video gams.

  • I’d like to see something surprising come out of this other than just illegal actions taken by Geohot punished by Sony, some dumb wannabe hiphop video and a court case yet again won by a financial tyrant.

    • tareq salah

no surprise here. who could win against a giant like sony. this kid is in deep water. it looks like sony is determined to make an example of him no matter the cost.

  • doub7

Yeah that rap he did on YouTube was atrocious. He should b prosecuted 4 that b4 the hacking. I agree w/ woody tho I don’t really even c what the basis of sony’s lawsuit is.

    • PilarVIRUS

He did a rap? I don’t even want you to link it to me, I just don’t even want to know.

    • tareq salah

Lol man that was bad. I feel bad for him. Even the hacking community left him.

  • doub7

Oh Pilar u have 2 c the rap man, it will melt ur face off. Its 1 of those things where u barely can watch cuz its so embarassing. Its as bad as seein the Situation from Jersey Shore doin stand up comedy recently. YouTube it ASAP!

I have 2 say it is so funny 2 revisit this thread in light of the more recent post concerning geohot. It seems so crazy & dramatic. & Sony seems like the CIA…lol.
