PS3 update prevents HDD upgrade

With the recent release of PS3 firmware version 3.56 many users are complaining that they are experiencing problems while trying to upgrade the console’s hard disk drive.

The following models are supposedly affected by this issue:

Original PS3s:
CECHH
CECHJ
CECHK
CECHL
CECHM
CECHP
CECHQ

Slim PS3s:
CECH-20..A
CECH-20..B
CECH-21..A
CECH-21..B
CECH-250.A
CECH-250.B
CECH-250.A
CECH-250.B
CECH-251.A
CECH-251.B

The update was apparently meant to patch the various security issues that the PS3 has been experiencing as of late. Supposedly though the firmware has already been cracked by hackers and, with this potential blow to legitimate consumers wanting to upgrade their PS3′s hard drive, it would seem that the recent update hasn’t been the success story that Sony were hoping for.

Thanks to CVG for the info.

See, this is why it sucks when a company’s hardware is hacking prone. I’m really glad i have a 320 slim model. I’m sure sony will release an update soon to allow everyone else to upgrade their HDDs. they’re usually pretty good about things like that. I just hope they win the lawsuit againts Geo so that he stays away from Sony console. It’s not like they dont have so much to worry about! Keep your head up Sony!!! Aqua Out.

So wait, if I have a 320gb SATA hard drive from western digital (the same brand sony uses), now I can’t upgrade because they’re worried I’ll hack my shit? Sony…….GTFO
