PS4: Having Problems With DualShock 4 Sticks? Replace Them With Dualshock 3′s

Thanks to a bit of hope, sugar and some generous physical alteration.

Dualshock 4_01

The DualShock 4 brings forth a ton of improvements to Sony’s classic controller formula, but when it comes to the analog sticks, you may find it a bit odd compared to the DualShock 3. While the former is a tad lower and more concave, the latter is more convex and might be more comfortable for some since it adheres to the traditional PlayStation style. To top that several users are reporting that the rubber of the DualShock 4 sticks are wearing off. A new video has emerged which shows just how you can replace the analog sticks on the DS4 with the DS3′s. Check it out above.

Of course, when we say “replace”, we mean that it requires a fair amount of slicing, dicing and mutilation of the DualShock 3′s analog sticks to ensure they fit inside the DualShock 4. The video above explains just how this is possible and the benefits offered by replacing the DS4′s sticks.

It’s a matter of preference though, so don’t try it if you’re satisfied with the new analog sticks and how they react for the PS4. But for those who want a bit of the old DualShock feel, this is the way to go about it.

Such a horrible HORRIBLE idea. I am sorry but the sticks in the DS3 are horrible when it comes to precision controlling. DS4 was a big step up compared to the DS3 when it comes to the stick design. The rubber is thinner and concaved, to allow for a better and more steady grip.

Too bad Sony decided to go with the style of rubber they did in the DS4. Its a very similar texture to the DS3 but compared to the XBox controller, its just a little more slippery.

The DS4 sticks grip is OK. But gets much worse once your hands are sweaty. The rubber grip offers next to no grip and literally slips off the thumb when it is sweaty.

      Not for me.

Sony needs to address and fix this issue. There is no way thumbsticks
should wear out so quickly. They must have spent tens of thousands of
hours play testing the ds4 so how this is an issue is beyond me. Sony
took such great care to bring a great console to market with the PS4 and
made significant improvement to with the ds4, it doesn’t make a whole
lot of sense that this is happening.

    • Medman

This happened to me already so i this seems interesting, for me.

I’m sure they could care less about it wearing out considering they swallowed the price of the controller. It just gives you more incentive to buy another controller once it wears out to the point of a walmart display model. PS3 and Xbox have those things you can clip to the controller so I’m sure there will or are some for the PS4/X1.

LOLing hard at $0N¥ paupers like you, you got what you paid for. Pauperquality.

Good lord, get a life moron. You must be one sad, lonely individual.

    • Falcon D. Stormvoice

It’s literally the same guy, in every gaming article, trying to paint a good price as a thing to be ashamed of.

When something happens to you personally, it makes it seem as though it is a widespread issue. Especially when other people on the internet have the same problem. After talking to Gamestop, Sony, and friends who own a PS4, I don’t think it is. None of them had even heard of it.

Anyway, bought a matching set of thumbstick covers for me and the missus and the game is back on.

just get some ORB thumbsticks for PS4 off Amazon… the convex ones with little bobbles get the PS4 sticks close to PS3 ones…

  • epic beast

Instead of potentially breaking your controller why don’t you just buy some fps freeks. Done.

  • alchemistx24x7

Sony Company as a whole is broke, they have been losing money for years so it is of no surprise to me that they cheaply built the ps4 and ds4…I have both console and it is no comparison of the quality material MS used compared to ps4 cheaper material….You get what you pay for….

    • WolfyZA

Sony’s financial accountant ladies and gentlemen….

    • Wanderlei

      He is completely correct.
-Sony has 18 billion dollars worth of debt
-Sony’s net worth is only 19 billion dollars
-Sony share price is only worth 10% what it was 10 years ago.
-At its peak it was $200 per share, today only $17
-Getting destroyed by Samsung and LG in consumer electronics,
-Apple destroyed them with the iPod and iPhone
      -Junk Status rating
-Lost well over $8 billion on the ps3, more than their ps1/2 profits combined
-Losing $2 billion plus on the Vita
-Sacked 50,000 people in last 5 years
-Sold both Japan and US headquarters to avoid an embarrassing 8 quarter lose streak

Erm, $0N¥ has well over 140 Billion in liabilities (debt). They’re F-ed!

    • Falcon D. Stormvoice

You don’t seem to comprehend what “completely correct” means . He is actually half correct, and completely stupid.

  • Guest

Yup, $0N¥ PauperStation Foul is disintegrating at the seems. But it’s not just the sticks, the softer back of the DS4 have the same problems as well. It’s just poor $0N¥ build quality for paupers.

  • maxleresistant

Like the console itself, controllers have warranties, don’t be a moron. Use it

  • s3ltzer

Too much free time on hand….seriously, that’s more like Dualshock 3.5 instead..it’s a step backwards. Now, add the XBones sticks and you may have something going…
