PS4 Home Menu May Be Getting Ads Soon

This reminds me of a certain console from last generation...

More and more, Sony and the PS4 are beginning to resemble the Xbox 360 and Microsoft from last generation- the same ease of use and development, leading to a favorable environment for third party development, leading in turn to superior multiplatform games and graphical superiority. The same reliance on timed exclusive DLC and exclusive content for multiplatform games, alongside a de-emphasizing of actual exclusives and first party investment. Paid online.

Now there’s another point to chalk up- apparently, Sony are looking to push ads to the PS4 home menu. Neogaf user MMaRsu reports that when he fired up his PS4 to check if Metal Gear Online was working for him, he got greeted by a Destiny logo on his homescreen instead. He doesn’t own Destiny, so he clicked on the icon. Clicking the icon resulted in being directed to the PS Store.

It appears that the ad can be deleted, but it’s still pretty intrusive, and it’s pretty shitty that Sony seems to be imbibing some of the worst of Microsoft from the previous generation. Hopefully Sony hears the inevitable outcry on this issue and pre-empts this by backtracking on this themselves.
