SimCity Servers Struggle with Demand at Launch
EA works to ensure US gamers can access the game, despite DRM and server capacity issues.
If you haven’t been able to unlock your game – even if you own a physical copy – or can’t join a game for the next 30 minutes, then yes, you are in fact part of the US launch woes of EA’s SimCity.
Origin has been seeing a lot of slowdown as EA and Maxis work hard to ensure many gamers are able to access their games. Marcel Hatam, global community manager, stated to Polygon on Twitter that, “We are still in the process of delivering SimCity to some US customers, but the majority has been fulfilled.
“We are continuing to distribute SimCity as quickly as possible. You should receive your game within the next one and a half hours.”
And guess just what happens to be slowing things down? Along with server capacity, the always-on DRM which sees some gamers waiting for enormously long queues before they’re able to access a game a la Blizzard’s Diablo 3.
Now let’s see how quickly things get under control before the game launches in the UK on March 8th.
We also have new screens from the game. Check them out below:
