Insomniac Games president Ted Price has revealed to IGN that the studio’s upcoming Xbox One exclusive Sunset Overdrive will run at 900p resolution and 30 FPS.

According to Price, “What happened for developers not using the Kinect is that there was a slight boost in CPU power that we got to take advantage of. This game really does push the limits when it comes to the number of enemies on screen, so it was useful for us to have more CPU juice to help with physics, navigation and AI.

“We’re running at 900p and 30 fps native. This is a game with a lot on the screen and we made the choice to be at 900p because we wanted to push the level of detail, action, the size of the city and the views you can experience as move around. What’s great about Sunset Overdrive is if you can see it, you can go there.”

He also stated that Sunset Overdrive is the biggest game the studio has ever created. “You can continue playing after the end of the game and we don’t imagine people will unlock everything the first time through.”

Sunset Overdrive releases on October 28th in North America and October 31st in Europe. What are your thoughts on the game’s resolution? Let us know below.

  • Can’t wait to get this one. 1080p doesn’t make a game great. Gameplay does.

As of late Insomniac hasn’t made a game that has great gameplay. They may be due for one and maybe this is it but I would be cautious.

    • LOL. Ok I’ll be cautious but since its only a game I don’t think it will hurt.

Is he serious? This guy’s picking up DemFax’s traits. He shoulda used his own advice when he bought his system! Lol. Nah just joking.

It looks pretty. Would have liked them to shoot for 1080 but as long as it looks good I don’t care. I’m getting it free anyway.

as a dev said resolution if a difficult one, having 1080p and rubbish texture makes the rubbish texture clearer, 900p and a good texture means a good texture :d

Yeah manYeah I wouldn’t be surprised if Insomniac had even more free’d up resources, and still threw that on the enemies, AI and such. I’m all for this man. It’s lookin good. I actually think 900p could be the sweet spot for some games, to push for better picture quality and increased NPCs. I agree with Crytek dropping the res to 900 in Ryse. A good balance imo.

there desigbn choice is about fun so having more enemies and doing crazy stufff is more benficial whereas PS4 is more conservative, having smaller amount so f units at greater deal but sucks at fun

If you really think 900p is the sweet spot for games you need your head checked. You play on a 1080p native television I assume, well a 900p resolution isn’t even a real format. We all know that the Xone can upscale to 1080p the issue is it makes the picture a bit blurrier than it should. This game is an open world 3rd person shooter, you lose some precision thanks to the lower framebuffer.I don’t think it’s a huge issue but to call it ” a sweet spot” is just no offence dumb.

I was sleepin good, and then I saw ur opinion. Oh well.

      1) I sit 7 feet away from my 40″ TV set
      2) Ryse blew my mind
      3) Sunset O will too
      4) You Sony guys shoulda told Sucker Punch 900p was the Sweet Spot, considering there was, at best, 15 NPCs on screen at a time, for a supposed “open world” game.
      5) No disrespect
