Nine Game Franchises That May Not Get A Trilogy (But Probably Deserve It)

Just as the sequel has always been the backbone of the game production industry, so the trilogy has become the modern day staple that drives sales within our humble media. Not content with a single follow up, most blockbuster franchises are going for the rule of three and, whilst most have managed this successfully, some may not hit that magical third instalment. Read on for ten franchises that may not become a trilogy and why this may be the case.

Mega Man Legends

The cancelled third game in the Legends Mega Man sub-series has been a recent issue that many fans have had to deal with, but the uninitiated may not realise what all the fuss is about. A Mega Man action RPG may sound like a bit of a dud and, if you wound up playing the first game in the series only, you’d be forgiven for thinking this is the case. What made the sequel so incredible however was just how much it improved over the original. If the third game had been given a true release, lord knows how amazing it would’ve been if it kept up a similar level of growth. I guess we’ll never know.

Red Dead

Another example of a sequel that completely reinvented a game. Red Dead Revolver was a fairly stylized third person shooter, but Redemption was one of the most successful games of 2010 hands down. Considering the amount of time it spent in development though, coupled with the fact that it was set at the very end of the Wild West period, it seems unlikely that Rockstar will follow up with a third Red Dead game.
