Of all artistic mediums out there, video games probably go on for the longest amount of time. It would have to be a pretty lengthy book or film to rival the length of the average game, and over the course of your 8+ hours of game time, you often begin to gain a real attachment to the game’s world and characters. Nothing is worse then, than when that attachment is ruined by a shoddy ending. Though it is fresh in people’s minds, Mass Effect 3 will not be included in this list.

Regardless of the controversy caused by the ending, it is too soon to truly consider how the ending fits in to the wider context of gaming as a whole. Regardless, read on for ten of the worst endings out there.

Having gone through one of the most intelligent and original titles about revenge ever, you finally reach your ultimate goal of killing Kain. Or at least, that's what you think. You finally confront Kain in the chronoplast chamber but, after a limp and unchallenging boss fight and some well scripted pontifications about destiny, he flees through time. Ready to chase him down for a final battle, our hero then encounters some old dude who pretty much just says “you now need to buy the sequel to find out what happens next.”
