The Crew’s Day One Online Multiplayer Questioned by DICE Designer

Oh Alan.

Ubisoft’s The Crew will be releasing this November for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PC and has been garnering accolades for the scale of its open world. Though featuring single player, the main appeal of The Crew is its persistent online multiplayer which allows players to team up and form different crews for jobs. Naturally every online title, especially one of this size, will encounter issues on the first day.

Hilariously, DICE designer Alan Kertz voice his concerns on Twitter, stating that, “The Crew is quite cool, I’m worried about ubi’s ability to deliver online day 1 though.”

While a legitimate concern, it’s still funny to hear this coming from some one who worked on Battlefield 4 which faced numerous issues with its online multiplayer after launch. In fact, it could be argued that one of the key reasons Battlefield: Hardline has been delayed is due to EA not wanting a repeat of the Battlefield 4 disaster.

Thoughts on Kertz’s opinion? Let us know in the comments.

Yea he shouldn’t be talking. I’m in the PC beta at the moment. Hoping to get into both the xb1 and ps4 betas soon. Right now when you login there is a wait time that averages 7 min. The longest I’ve waited was 22. Every once in a while you will get to the end of the count, the game will begin to load but then nothing happens and you have to get back in line.

If server queues are their solution to lots of players they are going to have lots of angry gamers come launch day. That stuff is accepted during a beta but not after release as its nearly as bad as servers being offline.

As for the game…it’s OK. Nothing special so far. Vehicle handling is arcade obviously and its got good control and the map is in fact huge but I really haven’t seen anything that screams buy me yet. I’ve played about 5 hours or so and I’m huge into racing games. Chances are I’ll pass on the crew and stick with forza horizon and drive club but you never know. It all depends on how drive club plays which I can’t experience until it hits PS+

Some good news about the crew though is system specs. It runs great on my aging laptop which only has a 555m w5gb video memory. The extra memory certainly helps but the GPU itself is ancient. I run the game at a locked 30fps @ 1080p with 8xCSAA and all the graphics settings on medium so anyone who regularly plays games on PC should be just fine.

I haven’t actually done any of the missions except that first one they force you to do. I’ve just been driving around and exploring. I should probably do some so I can get a better vehicle than the stupid red truck.

It’s got a decent concept its just coming out in the wrong year. Too much competition. Should have delayed it.

    • Psionicinversion

yeah be funny how many Playstation games sell when theyve got tons of games at the some time rather than ppl buying games because they got nothing else to play
