The Last of Us: Part 2 was officially announced at yesterday’s PlayStation Experience and created quite the buzz. In a panel presented afterwards, creative director Neil Druckmann talked about the game was originally meant to be showcased at E3 2016.

The discussion was ongoing between Sony and Naughty Dog, with the former wanting an E3 reveal since the event is much bigger. However, Naughty Dog are “such fans” of PSX and being present with fans at the event that it finally settled on it instead.

Ellie will be playable in the sequel and she’ll play differently from Joel. There will be some changes to the standard formula along with some revamps but a gameplay showcase in the future will showcase more details. Fans of the original can look forward to different kinds of moments and Druckmann is hopeful that these will resonate as much as the first game did. As for when the game will be ready, Naughty Dog has an idea but won’t announce a date anytime soon.
