Ubisoft BeNeLux PR & Event Manager Tessa Vilyn has addressed concerns that Watch Dogs has been visually downgraded since it’s last showing in September 2013. The open world hacking title recently faced community backlash when the new story trailer and release date were revealed. There’s even insider talk that Ubisoft is quite fearful of the backlash thus far.

Responding on Twitter to demands for releasing footage that matches the E3 reveal, Vilyn said, “There is a lot more coming up until May 27th for you guys to discover. 🙂 So we will! :)”

On being specifically told that the new trailer looked downgraded compared to the September 13th demo, Vilyn responded: “Didn’t see my tweet an hour ago? 😉 Believe me the game is not downgraded, that would just be a bit ridiculous. :)”

Vilyn also clarified that some issues have been persistent since the game’s initial reveal. For example, “Aiden’s face still had animation bone issues in 2012 >> just to be clear :)”

She also added that, “Its a true next gen game for sure… for sure..”

What are your thoughts? Watch Dogs releases on May 27th for Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Stay tuned for more updates from Ubisoft as they arrive.

Due to the recent trailer this game went from a day 1 purchase to a wait and see. Not only will I wait for reviews but I will also wait for Eurogamers head to head to see the differences between the Xbox one and ps4. I assume If the reviews are good I’ll be buying it on ps4 but if the graphical differences are minimal I’ll go Xbox simply because I prefer the controller. Im not concerned so much about the minimal resolution differences but I am wondering about stability of the fame rate, texture quality and lighting/effects quality.

go watch the gamespot real gameplay video, very GTA like so i think its going to be quite good. GTA has never had the best gfx in the world but its sooooo much more fun that ALOT of other stuff

    • d0x360

My concern isn’t that the graphics have been downgraded despite the fact that the downgrade is significant. My trouble is what else have they sacrificed since the last major showing at e3?

Did they decide they were being too ambitious and suddenly have to make major cuts to get performance stable? Did they scale ai down? Lower city size or geometry complexity? Cut the character count on screen down?

A change that large brings up various concerns in many areas. I hope the game turns out awesome but I can wait a few days before I buy it.

hmm yeah thats true i cant imagine theyd make to many cutbacks in the core part of the game which is basically to control the city with the phone…. consoles AI in a fight is rubbish anyway its pointless i dont know if its for all game but the good old aimbot when you hold down a certain trigger. I watched the opening of GTA5 gameplay that a youtuber did and they were saying omg this is so easy yeah cus they were using the inbuilt aimbot to kill stuff with.

May not be the same for all game i dont know cus i dont own a console, if anything id say for performance it would be a mix of gfx and population density in an open game like this theyd reduce, maybe cut down on the AA add some lod scaling, cant cut down to much on population density cus of hacking ppl aspect, prolyl car detailing, maybe some car physics etc. But is it a limitation of the game or the engine there using. If the engine there using cant handle all that/theyve over stretching themselves on what there trying do cutbacks have to made somewhere and tbh from that game id prefer gfx on cars buildings etc than cutbacks on the core part of the game

Could be anything really. Ubi has a history of great ideas but often the first game in a series isn’t very good but then the sequel is incredible.
I’m sure the game will turn out fine but is rather wait a couple days to make sure its fun and also so I can get whatever version is best.

    • Psionicinversion

well im lucky… i can choose whatever version i want as long as its PC!!! lol

    • d0x360

If I had a PC good enough to run modern games I’d probably do the same for this one. Most games I’d still go console just for ease of use sake.

    • Psionicinversion

yeah thats true, ive always bin PC so majoritively upto date i dont go stupid and spending £1000 every year prolly every few years

    • d0x360

I used to lol. I’d buy 2 new graphics cards at least once a year. Now I’m a little more tempered in my spending. I bought a gaming class laptop about 2 Years ago. It just barely runs stuff coming out now at medium settings so I stopped buying games for it unless its a great steam sale or a humble bundle. I’ll build or buy a new one probably next year.

    • Psionicinversion

ive never ought dual cards i ahd a athlon 64 3200, 4GB ram and hmm notsure the only i really replaced was the gfx card had it for 6 years. I upgraded my PC 3 years agao to i7 950, 6GB triple channel, 1GB 6870 xifi sound card, 5.1 speaker 24ich 1080p monitor. Ive recently replaced it with a 3GB 280x Toxic which failed 3 times in a row so got a MSI 280x gaming edition which is more than upto the job can throw anything at it at max details and performs extremely well. But for Styar Citizen when it comes out ill be looking upto £600 gfx card and a new PSU to make sure i max it out cus its going to be awesome

    • d0x360

Star citizen is why I’m doing it. My hangar runs at 19fps at sub HD resolution with detail settings on low.

Don’t ever bother with dual cards. A lot of games don’t take advantage of it and the ones that do aren’t worth it. You see a gain of like 5-10 fps on average. The only real benefit is using 1 card just for physics but again the game has to support doing that. Not worth double the price at all.

    • Psionicinversion

ah i mean dual cards for 4K resolution for 1080p maxed 780-780Ti is enough, for 1440p might be a bit dodgy maybe dual GPU there but think dual 770’s will be enough for 1440p

    • d0x360

Dual GPU cards seem to work better than 2 separate cards. Its probably because he division of work between the chips is handled by the firmware itself and not a game.

    • Psionicinversion

hmm i dunno its prolly more to do with it doesnt have to leave the card, in dual GPU like 2 physical card it has to leave the card enter the bus then enter the other card and vice versa so it prolly is quicker a little bit maybe not sure how they work tbh but id imagine data being pumped through 1 card with 2 GPU’s is faster cus of smaller nm distance so latency reduced fps increases butwith any dual gpu setup CPU the bottleneck and mantle is the cure, and maxwells denver chip to some extent

    • d0x360

Dual gpu workload should in theory be just as fast because each card is supposed to render only 50% of the image which would more than make up for travel time of the data. Unfortunately the real world performance just isn’t there.

    • Psionicinversion

actually its not the firmware its the drivers that tell which card what to do becuase after watching mantle thing from AMD its more clear. What happens is the driver gets commands from the game and it tries to guess what the best order, queue which is best at processing what etc… with mantle the game/application basically becomes the driver it pretty much directly tells the cards what to process what data goes in which memory buffer, the order of the queues, just anything basically the driver has enough abstraction to make some stuff easier but instead of driver doing best guess, the game/application is telling it what to do for the most efficeient way possible.

Now mantle is still very much beta, its got alot to do to become a really good API but MS obviously dont like it cus DX12 announcement the thing with that is though how can they provide such low level access which is literally by architecture cus most are different enough to do a good job. itll take MS years

  • Psionicinversion

well after EA came bundling in with there garbage releases its defo a wait and see for me, BF4 is the last game i pre-ordered well apart from Star Citizen cus you know game of the decade deserves to be waited for 😉

  • zainfazal3000

If what Ubi Soft is saying is true and the game hasn’t been downgraded, then they released a crappy trailer. If they want us to believe them they need to show a new trailer that actually shows this is a next gen game.

  • Psionicinversion

    last generation
