Umbra Software has announced that Umbra 3 Visibility Solution is now available for Xbox One. Utilizing automatic occluder generation and software based occlusion culling, it has been optimized to take advantage of the XO’s power. The middleware assists in generating levels and graphical content at a very quick pace. Umbra 3’s most up to date version is 3.2, currently available for all licensed Xbox One and Xbox 360 developers.

Chief Technology Officer Otso Mäkinen stated that, “We are very excited to be working on the powerful new Xbox One [2] platform and being able to help our many clients realizing their vision for next-generation video games utilizing Umbra 3.”

Besides being utilized in upcoming blockbusters like Bungie’s Destiny and CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – which is exclusive to next generation consoles, it is also being licensed by the likes of Remedy and Eidos Montreal for future projects. Does that mean Quantum Break and Assassin’s Creed V utilize the same technology? Possibly.
