Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has seen quite a long development cycle compared to Naughty Dog’s previous titles. The game saw numerous delays but the good thing is that they never compromised on the game’s quality. During the development cycle, the developer shared a number of gameplay videos and it’s always intriguing to see how the retail version compares against the pre-release builds. In this video we are going to compare the final build with demonstrations showcased at E3 2015 and PSX 2014.

For the most part, we are looking at the same core assets but we are pleased to report that the retail version has a slight upgrade in details. The colors are more vibrant along with lesser compression artefects on several objects and the skin shaders are much more prominent in the final build.

There are some points where it may seem that the background in the previous builds have more detail but that is not the case since those builds lacked a high quality depth of field. There may be a few instances where certain volumetric effects are missing compared to the older build but that is how game development is. Anyway, what are your thoughts and which look do you prefer?

    Dear GamingBolt, are you sure? The lighting and textures are much better on the E3 build. Characters look like plastic.

      Yea, I agree. The game has been downgraded to achieve 1080p. It’s so obvious. The reason you see articles like this is that there is a video comparing uncharted to Ryse, TombRaider and Quantum Break, and it’s clear Ryse is still the champ. Pro sony fans can’t deal with the fact that uncharted isn’t the best looking game this gen.

      Another low bitrate Youtube video by an Xgimp trying to hold back his buyer’s remorse? Ryse had a handful of corridors not rendering much for you to get excited over, ditto Joke Raider 2 and Quantum Break’s Vaseline filter was laughable. Any more excuses you want to make for the Jokebox’s band aids?

    Yeah the difference is clearly night and day, with the textures, lighting, basically all effects have undergone a complete overhaul.
    The character models have a way more realistic and natural look to them now, where the E3 2015 looks more dull and lifeless.
    The skin and clothing on Nate and Sully looks more plastic compared to the release build. Sully has added sweat on the back of his shirt that isn’t there on the E3 2015 build. Nate also has added dirt and sweat.

    The game’s definitely undergone a vast improvement for the release game, E3 2015 still looks awesome, but the release game looks significantly better now.
