PC Design veteran Doug Church, who worked on Thief, Deus Ex and the System Shock games, has been hired by Valve. Valve’s Doug Lombardi said that Church has been working with them for “a couple of weeks”  but added no further comment on Church’s role within the company or any projects he may be working on.

Thanks to Gamasutra for the info.

That is a great addition 2 an already super talented company. Wish they could buy the rights 2 system shock. But please announce episode 3 of HL2 already!

I am just hoping they make a game that combines the elements of System Shock, with Thief, and Deus Ex. Now that sounds entertaining and something Valve could do.

This is Great. So the guy responsible for half of my top-ten all time most favourite games has joined those who fill out the other half of the list. Isn’t it dangerous to keep that much awesome in one place? Church has spent years in the industry making awesome games that didn’t sell, and probably not getting paid that much (certainly not pay becoming one of the great visionaries of the industry).

This also goes to show just how hard it is to get hired by Valve.
