Wii U similar in power to the PS3 and 360 – Report

Darksiders 2 game director, Marvin Donald has mentioned in an interview with Gamereactor that the Wii U is similar in power to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Now, the NDA should be extremely strict for such things, so take this information with a pinch of salt, but Donald basically said that they aren’t doing anything special with the Wii U version when it comes to higher polygon count, better resolution or textures.

However, they got the game running really fast on the Wii U, and it has been really easy to work with. They are focusing on the controller of the system to provide an unique experience.

Lead designer of the Darksiders 2, Hayden Dalton also said the same thing in an interview with DigitalSpy.

It’s basically the core game, but then with added abilities to do certain things that you can’t do on the other consoles,” he said.

“One of the things that we did, when we were originally going to show it off [at E3 2011], was that you could equip stuff directly. So, for instance, I could be running along and I could click on another piece and I could put it on as I’m running through the game.

“We’re not basically heavily changing the core game to support the control system, but the control system will be an enhancement of the core game.”

The game doesn’t have a solid release date yet for the Wii U version, and all of these things should be clear at E3 this year. Darksiders 2 will be a launch title for the system.

Welp. Good luck to Nintendo, then. Releasing a machine that’s comparable to 6-7 year old consoles that are inching ever so forward towards the next gen versions is a bold move. Even with a unique controller… I bet you’ll see new PS/XB consoles in 2013 or 2014 in which case the WiiU will be stuck exactly where the Wii was, with aged tech, while it’s competition boasts shiny new graphics and cpu heavy features.

Then, we’ll start seeing stuff like… Vita ports to the WiiU? Honestly lots of PSP ports were made for the Wii… I can see it happening.

With that power comes great responsibility, I hope it launches at a cheap price.
