xbox 720

An Italian website has posted a rumour that Microsoft will delay their next Xbox to 2014. The reason suggested for this is that they are having troubles with Blu-Ray licensing and that is preventing the company from releasing the console this year.

This of course sounds rubbish because Microsoft can add the movie playback and other features that require licensing via a firmware update after the system is out.

It also mentions something about Sony having an exclusivity over some parts of the format which Microsoft cannot use. This obviously doesn’t really make sense because Microsoft can simply pay for it or do something else than giving an entire holiday season to Sony.

Take this with a massive pinch of salt. Microsoft will be revealing their next-gen system on May 21st.

actually this makes sense sony owns the rights to bluray drives also sony will make money off of every xbox720 sold with a bluray drive win win for sony

  • mat

now if sony really wanted to be a dick they could refuse the use of bluray drives in the 720 again sony built the bluray back when Microsoft thought hddvd was the next big thing I also remember Microsoft stating they will never adapt bluray support when the 360 first came out

  • Microsoft deserves it with their crappy HDDVD. Sony knew Bluray was the way and own it. So only makes sense since Microsoft was dumb not to have Bluray for games.
